Win-Win dog and cat sitting!

Pet care experience

I am a PhD student at the University of Minnesota and I LOVE dogs and cats. I have a cat (has CH and is deaf), but unfortunately cannot have a dog. Pet sitting not only helps you, but I get to enjoy taking care of your pup like they are my own and reduce the stress of school! From age 10 and on, I have been a pet sitter for friends and family, including staying with a friend's dogs over the weekend, cat sitting, and dog walking. My family had 5 dogs at one point, so I have been around animals for my whole life. For two summers during my undergraduate degree, I worked professionally as a dog sitter and walker with a small business called Precious Pets. During this time, I would go to the client's house up to 3 times a day. This job included working with all kinds of breeds and multiple pets during one job. I even have some experience giving animals medicine from this experience.

Alyssa did an amazing job watching our cats! She sent us updates on how they were doing and was very thorough in their care! We would have her as a sitter again!

Alyssa did a great job with our dogs! It was a relief knowing they had someone to hang with while we were out of town.

Alyssa has been WONDERFUL. She took such good care of my senior beagle mix Brandy prior to her passing (cancer is the worst), and now takes amazing care of my lab mix Ari. She was able to wrangle them together on walks, which is no easy feat, and play with both in their favorite ways. Now that my lab is on his own, she gives him her undivided fetching attention but also knows when he needs to take a break (because he doesn't). Brandy was *very* selective in her cuddling recipients and Alyssa was one of few to receive the honor, and was so, so kind when she found out about her cancer and death. 12/10 will use Alyssa for my dog and any future additions, and feel confident in their care.

Safety, trust & environment

I like to meet with a client before sitting and go over everything they need to be done. This way I can ask questions and ensure that I have all the information I need (including any medications, food requirements, location of food, etc.). I like to visit a client's home 2-3 times a day and provide some play time with the pets for at least an hour a day.

Information Alyssa L. would like to know about your pet

It is important to know about any medications or special food requirements. Also, knowing how well your dog does walking on a leash! Want to make sure your dog and I are safe if we do go on a walk. For cats, knowing how they do with new people and what their favorite toys are. Cats can be picky, so the more information the better!

A typical day

I love to play all sorts of games with dogs to stimulate them. Walks will normally be around their neighborhood, but with client's permission, I like to go walk around different parks like Como park! With cats, I like to stimulate them with different types of toys and sometimes give them catnip, if allowed. One trick I have learned over the years with cats is to play cat tv while I am with them, which stimulates them a lot!
