Former zookeeper and experienced pet sitter!

Pet care experience

I have worked with a variety of animals over the years including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. I was inspired to join the field since I grew up pet sitting for neighbors and friends. Now I have a BS of Zoology and plans to foster dogs/cats as soon as my family has a permanent home!

Absolute gem of a pet caretaker. She was flexible on times, sweet and friendly to the humans and our cats. I’m currently deployed while my pregnant wife is back home and she was very accommodating to us. Will use in the future that is certain!

Safety, trust & environment

I always treat animals with the utmost care since I would want someone to do the same for my pets! I work hard to understand how prospective clients prefer me to interact with their animals, whether it be a slow walk for older pups or sniff-walks to fully tire out more energetic ones. This also goes for playing with toys or encouraging obedience if desired. The zookeeper side of me wants all animals to have enriched lives!

Information Allison D. would like to know about your pet

I would like to be made aware of any medical concerns that could have an impact on an animal in their daily life! It’s also good to know of any behaviors that I should look out for to know if something is wrong. This could include limping, head shaking, or anything specific that your animal does to show that something isn’t quite right. I also prefer to know how your animal is going to interact with people or other animals (dogs, cats, geese, pigeons). If I know what to look out for, I can make sure we all are as safe as possible.

A typical day

I really enjoy finding new places for pups to smell. This is such a huge stimulus for them since their nose is up to 10,000 times more sensitive than a human nose. There are quite a few different routes that I vary throughout the week so each day is a new adventure! For in-home visits, I will use whatever toys are approved to interact and get some energy out! I’m also usually talking to any animals I interact with; they know so much more than we give them credit for!
