Will care for your pet as my own!

Pet care experience

I have lived in Birmingham for the past 13 years. I live with my human family (sister, brother-in law,and 3 amazing nephews). My four-legged family is my cat (Whiskee, 23 1/2 years old). My dogs (Cassie, 15 years old, and Max, 13 years old) sadly passed in March and April of this year. Eventhough I gave them the best years I was capable of, I miss them terribly. Before moving to Alabama, I lived in NYC where I worked at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) as a pet bereavement counselor. I also worked at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS). First as an adoption counselor and eventually became the Volunteer Coordinator. Currently, I spend my time writing my memoir. I enjoy spending time with my family, writing, and reading. I would love the opportunity to care for your four-legged family member. I would treat them as if they were my own.

Alice was the best sitter we can have imagined for our animals. We usually drop our dog and cat off with my mom if we are going out of town, but she was unavailable so we had to look for other options. My dog has a little bit of separation anxiety and we knew a boarding facility would not be the best option so we started looking online. Alice made us feel so comfortable when we spoke to her on the phone and met her at our home prior to our trip. She was extremely professional and came with her own papers and questions regarding our animals and our expectations. She exceeded our expectations, sending us daily updates showing our animals relaxing, walking and playing in the yard. She even clipped our cats toenails! We will definitely be booked Alice again. I think our animals will miss her.

Alice is a perfect dog caregiver. I have known Alice for 20 years, and her love for dogs and animals truly surpasses anyone I know who loves animals. Alice as a person is kind, tenderhearted, caring, friendly, loving, honest, trustworthy, faithful and dependable. The quality that stands out the most, however, is her compassion. Alice is consistently compassionate about her own dogs and the dogs of others. Her personal dogs have been her "babies", and Alice understands that other peoples' dogs are their "babies" too. When I first met Alice, her employment at the time was with dogs, and the job was not just "work" or "a job" to her----it was (and still is) her PASSION! She enjoys the playful/fun part of dog care, and she is most attentive to the needs and well being of dogs in her care. She is also wise and knowledgeable about dogs and their care and can tend to any needs they might have whether medical or elderly needs. I highly recommend Alice as a dog sitter/dog caregiver---She puts her heart into the responsibility!

Information Alice T. would like to know about your pet

Communication with the pets main caregiver is key to proper care taking. I am in the process of publishing my first book, so time for me is very flexible. I have no breed preference. However, I would like to know the temperament of your pet. Is he or she shy, or have they never met a stranger? Are there fears I need to know about or any form of aggression (food, territorial of other dogs or people) so I can maintain the utmost safety all around. Is there any form of separation anxiety when you leave your pet and how that behavior presents itself. If there has been a dramatic change in your pets life. for instance, a child going off to college or a recent move. Are there any pre-existing health problems, special dietary needs, crate or no crate. Vet information and instructions in case of an emergency. If it during off vet hours, permission to go to the emergency 24 hour vet care facility.

A typical day

It really depends on the temperament of the your pet. A very active dog will need to get that energy out. Going for a neighborhood walk, if there is a secure yard, playing a mean game of fetch or frisbee, or even going to a nearby dog park. A lower energy or older pet, would get my undivided attention. Whether it be a slower paced walk, on the floor playtime, if you pet enjoys being brushed, that can be a soothing technique. Rest assure I would never leave out the belly rubs if that is enjoyable for your pet! I will go above and beyond to make you pet feel as safe and comfortable a possible in your absence.
