Bio major who loves animals!
Pet care experience
Hi! I’m a Biology student at Davidson College focused on pursuing a PhD in Wildlife Biology and Conservation post-grad. I’m originally from Richmond, VA, but will be in Davidson this summer continuing my research on quantifying parental care behaviors in songbirds. My journey began with a desire to become a veterinarian, leading me to volunteer extensively at my local animal shelter during high school. With over 300 hours of hands-on experience in pet welfare, training, and care, I'm dedicated to ensuring your pets' happiness. Additionally, I've shadowed at two veterinarian hospitals, further enhancing my expertise. The past two summers, I nannied a 10 year old boy and spent countless hours each day feeding, walking, and playing with his 3 year old Cavapoo. I also have cat and dog sat for multiple families throughout high school and college. Back home, I share my life with Brady, a cherished 12-year-old Aussiedoodle. Animals hold a special place in my heart, and providing them with compassionate care is my lifelong passion.
Reviews
Alex is an exceptional dog walker! With a genuine love for animals and a responsible, caring approach, he ensures every furry friend gets the attention and exercise they need. I highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reliable dog walker.
Alex is responsible and loving and would be an amazing pet sitter. She loves to talk about her Animal Behavior class and is doing research on animals with the biology department. She loves all animals as if they are her own and I would feel very extremely comfortable leaving my pets with her.
Alex is a lifelong animal lover. She is responsible, reliable, competent and exercises a lot of common sense when taking care of pets. She is in charge, but also open enough to get a feel for the animal so it can show her what it needs! I would trust her implicitly with the care of my pets.
Alex's genuine love for animals and her responsible nature make her an ideal candidate for any care position. Her passion for caring for animals, demonstrated through her volunteer work with shelters and conservation research, showcases her dedication to ensuring the well-being of our furry friends. With her strong sense of responsibility and natural ability to connect with animals, Alex would be a valuable asset to anyone’s care team!

A typical day
I believe mental stimulation is as crucial as physical exercise for dogs. While out on walks, I integrate training sessions, reinforcing commands like sit and wait. Rather than simply handing out treats, I encourage the dog to perform a command before receiving a reward. It's a great way for dogs to showcase their skills and stay mentally engaged. I also think reading body language is very important. I never like to overcrowd dogs and get in their space; I let them show me how comfortable they are with pets and cuddles.
