Pet care experience
Hello Everyone, My name is Alan and I am a local dog walker and sitter residing in the Glen Cove area. I have been a sitter on Rover for about 6 years now, have about 8+ years of professional dog caring experience and have been around pets all of my life. My dog is Messi is the current permanent pooch of my household and he gets along great with all types since he was a mere pupper. The main reason why I am a sitter was so that my dog Messi could have some doggy friends and it worked out so well for him and me. Thanks to Rover, I have the opportunity of meeting great pet parents and so many pooches that I do not think I would have been able to on my own. I look forward to meeting you and your pooch should you be interested in my caring services. Thank you for reading this little about me, enjoy your day.
Reviews
Alan is one of the most professional dog walkers I’ve ever hired. He takes a genuine interest in your dog, as well as keep you updated with daily reviews on the walks he has with your pup. He walked my older dog up until her last weeks on earth, and now I will be looking to enlist in Alan’s services for our new puppy. 5 stars all around
Alan took care of my kitten for about a week. He was awesome and did an amazing job. He kept me informed by sending me pictures and text as to how she was doing. When I arrived her area was clean and tidy. I highly recommend Alan for your pets needs while you are away.
This is not our first stay with Alan. Our dog Bane was crying once he realized where we were to drop him off for the weekend. I was sad he didn't want to say goodbye to me, but happy he was excited to see Alan and Messi! Alan took great care of Bane- they went t the park, on walks and Alan made sure he ate. I am confident in Alan's care of my dog and love getting picture and video updates! Thank too Alan- we can go away without worry.
Jake loves his walks w Alan. He comes back happy, and energetic.

Please read this section very carefully as it contains vital information and deal breakers for my sitting preferences. I do not accept any dog over 60 lbs, there is no exception to this rule. In the past I was very lenient and allowed dogs of all sizes but have since learned that my home is best suited for dogs who are small or medium. All dogs must either be spayed or neutered, this helps prevent alpha/dominance behavior as well as prevents unnecessary humpings. I cannot board any special needs pets as my home is not suited for these pets. Living in a ranch style homes means that there are a many stairs inside and outside so dogs who have difficulty walking may not be able to mobilize themselves well in the new environment. Dogs over the age of 12 cannot be boarded in my home, I do not feel it is safe for old dogs to be in my home and am just trying to prevent any unnecessary falls. Aggressive dogs are not welcomed since I tend to care for 5 dogs at a time, there has never been a fight under my care and I would like to keep it that way. All of my dogs stay together and I do not separate any dog unless its feeding time. All dogs must have their vaccinations up to date, kennel cough is easy to get so please make sure your dog has the bordetella vaccine. Most of my dogs tend to be quiet or learn that being quiet leads to a healthy reward, if your dog is the type to be overly barky or a howler, then it may not work out. Last thing anyone wants is to get a complaint from the neighbors for a dog who barks too much. Puppies over the age of 4 months are welcomed but please understand that the rate will be higher as puppies demand a lot of monitoring and loving attention. Most puppies who are 4 months or older tend to have the necessary vaccinations but if your puppy does not then unfortunately I will not be able to care for that puppy due to health risks.
A typical day
Dogs under my care are taken on multiple walks throughout my neighborhood and other nearby neighborhoods such as Sea Cliff village. Walks vary from 30 minutues to 2 hours. I tend to take my dogs on car rides to other homes where I have permission to bring them along, like a mobile playdate in a fenced yard so that the dogs can run off leash to their hearts content. Another fun spot to visit are the local pet stores that are pet friendly so I can take my guest dogs with me when I need to resupply pet food and toys. Glen Cove now has a vastly large dog park that separates small and large dogs, it is a great spot to run and socialize with other dogs. I usually bring about 5-8 dogs with me and they enjoy the freedom of chasing a frisbee at a long distance. Surrounded by beaches, summer time is pool and beach time and thankfully I have access to both. Sadly though, most dogs do not appreciate being in the pool or going to the beach, water is too scary for them. For days where the weather does not want to cooperate, staying indoors is the best, wrestling over toys, lounging on the dog couch or just joining the humans in the living room for some head scratches. Sometimes I will take your dog with me to a dog friendly event such as Dog's day at the Old Westbury gardens or the annual Pet Convention or the fun halloween pet parade downtown. There is always something fun to do. P.S. I care for cats too!!!!
