Pet care experience
I’m very much the person who is likely to be standing in the corner, talking to the pets instead of the people. Over my life I’ve owned most types of animal you can own as a house pet, and even when young was expected to care for them myself. As an adult, I have been solely responsible for the wellbeing of a couple of critters, and I can only hope I’ve given them back the joy and care they show me. I’ve had litters of puppies and kittens in my household, and am comfortable with them in all stages - including some special situations. Reactive dogs? Skittish? Rescues? Clingy? Let’s work together so your pet can understand I’m a friend, they can be excited to see me and I can know what makes them comfortable - and you! Elderly, unwell, or special needs pet? No worries, that just means I need to give care a little differently!

I have had the pleasure to know Akiko her entire life and even from a very young age she has shown a love and affinity for all animals. Whether it was the Toronto Police Service horses snuffling her as an infant, the ducks and geese in the park ponds she watched for hours or the large array of pets we've had over the years, animals are drawn to her and she to them. Akiko has experience caring for dogs, cats, hamsters, pet rats, rabbits and more. She has shown herself to be intuitive to their needs and has an uncanny ability to earn their trust and affection. Akiko has worked with newborn pups, physically challenged cats and dogs, older animals with special needs as well as her own pets when they have become ill and needed extra care. I don't trust very many people to care for my pets and Akiko is someone I trust implicitly. Trusting your furry family members to her care is a sure bet every time.

I care for pets based on what you tell me. You understand them best, so while I can do standard basics like feeding, taking for a walk, some play or cuddle time, my preference would be for you to let me know what they enjoy. Does your dog like playing fetch with a stick at the park, in a specific off leash area? Let me know! Are they a puller reactive to other dogs, and best kept at a distance? Let me know! Do they need a cuddle after the walk? Let me know! Are they anxious about their collar being touched, and need some reassurance? Let me know! Is your cat a runner and I have to be careful with the door? Let me know! Does your cat like to sit in the backyard for a few minutes? Let me know! Essentially, I want to make my time with them as comfortable for both you and your pet as possible. Let’s work together!

A typical day
Days start (hopefully) with coffee and some quiet pet time while I adjust to the world. No matter what I have planned. Now that they’ve let me wake up, if they let me wake up, it’s time to get their energy out. Whether it’s low energy or high, a slow walk or some crazy play time, it will start both of our days off right. The activity depends on the pet - what do they enjoy? If there is a feeding schedule, we keep to that. In the end, the rest of the day isn’t up to me - it’s up to you and your pet.
