From chinchillas to dogs.
Pet care experience
I’ve had my dog for 11+ years, and I’ve had pets for the entire 16 years that I’ve lived here in San Francisco! While living in SF, I’ve taken care of chickens, chinchillas, ferrets, fish, hamsters, parakeets, snakes, rats, turtles, lizards, dogs, cats, a litter of seven foster kittens, and most recently I fostered two two-week-old kittens! I was born in Taiwan, and my parents had two cats and two pet ducks so I was exposed to animals very early in life! I also lived in Santa Cruz for a few years from age 2-5, where I took care of a parrot and a rabbit!
Reviews
It was easy to meet Akala before our trip to make sure our dog liked him, and of course she did! Akala is flexible and kept us posted on how our dog was doing which at appreciated very much!
I can always travel assured that our pup is well cared for and in a loving home. Akala communicates with me clearly and thpughtfully by sending detailed updates along with photos.
Akala was a great help. He is a very mature dog handler and made my dog Zola feel safe and taken care of. And he sent pics every day!
Our dog had a great stay - thank you Akaka!!

I attach AirTags to your dog's collar or harness to track them for the duration of their stay, in case of an emergency. I own enough of these trackers for each of the dogs, and I even have extras in case one needs to be replaced (ten total AirTags). I never let them off leash on walks - it's not worth the risk for me. I'm very good at socializing dogs and ensuring they get along with all people and all dogs that I introduce them to! When I board dogs, they typically adjust quickly, even if they have bad separation anxiety! I haven't had any dogs get injured while staying with me, and oftentimes, they entertain each other! Even when they're indoors! I watch them while they play so no one gets hurt and everyone's having fun! Older/smaller dogs get special attention so that younger/bigger dogs aren't too rough with them, but I rarely have to intervene. I always stand in between the dogs when I feed them and make sure they eat only their food, and I make sure no one gets into any territory fights over food. I usually board a maximum of four dogs, but around the holidays, I'll board a couple more. My home and my neighborhood are pet friendly! I have plenty of room inside, a nice backyard, and I live one block away from Ocean Beach! I also live with my family so all the dogs get attention from more than just me and they're welcome to join anyone on the couch, on a desk (if they're small enough), or in bed! My mother and father will love your pet!

Information Akala A. would like to know about your pet
I'll need to know if your dog has a history of being aggressive or territorial toward other dogs or people, if your dog takes any medication that you'll need me to administer, if your dog has any dietary restrictions (ex. chicken can give some dogs diarrhea) - I only feed your dog what you bring for their stay, what your dog's feeding schedule is (ex. one cup of kibble for breakfast and dinner), what your dog's walking schedule is like (ex. one walk in the morning, one walk in the afternoon, one walk at night), and how anxious they get when they're away from you and recommended ways of soothing their anxiety.
A typical day
I always walk dogs in a variety of places so they're never bored of the same walks. Most of the time, I take them for walks on Ocean Beach, through Golden Gate Park/Stern Grove, and around the Outer Sunset.

Availability
I work and study from home and I'm always available to watch and tend to pets! To avoid accidents, I typically take the dogs out once in the morning, once in the evening, and around four to six times in between for quick backyard bathroom breaks!
