My experience connecting with dogs comes from observing and learning to understand the relationship my sister had with her dog when I was growing up. They were best friends; they traveled together, went on so many adventures and just endured so much together as life surprises you in crazy ways. Anyway, it was that particular bond that has made me realize that there are really so many emotions communicated between a dog and their owner(s). I also grew up with dogs and cats all my life, so I know the routine of having a dog! Since high school up to now, I have been dogsitting and housesitting, not consistently, but definitely enough so that I feel able and competent to be in a stranger's house and work with each person's different pet responsibilities. I have done short daily sits and also longer two week sits.
