Love your pet as if it’s my own

Pet care experience

**please note that if you are looking for a sitter during weekdays I will have to be away from home between 7:30am to 6pm to work. I can accept bookings if you have a midday dog walker or I can bring your pup to a daycare.** Hello everyone! I'm a science teacher in Brooklyn at a public high school. I live in Brooklyn in Boerum Hill (nearby Park Slope, the Barclay Center, Gowanus, etc) with my partner. I have been pet sitting for 15+ years for dogs & cats mostly, but I've had experience with the occasional rodent, lizard, & arachnid. I really love and value being around pets as I find it to be therapeutic. I started in college as a dog walker and petsat for my friends. I grew up with two boisterous and energetic cockerspaniels. I've had experience with bathing, grooming, and daily dog responsibilities with them... however I'm not confident to groom other people's dogs beyond brushing.

This was Adrienne’s third time watching Junie and Junie was so excited to see her again. Adrienne does such a great job communicating and caring for Junie!

Adrienne was truly the best! She was super comprehensive in getting to know our dog and her behavior which was super reassuring. She was very communicative during the stay and sent us both updates and pictures. We felt super comfortable having her watch our dog and would recommend her to everyone!

Safety, trust & environment

I can be particularly drawn to dogs that others might think are a bit too much or have some odd quirks. I don’t mind hosting a dog or staying with them in the comfort of their own home if they're the type to get anxious in new environments. I generally will walk dogs 3 times a day, but if you require more than that, please let me know! If the weather/temperature are right, I don't mind taking them for long walks around Prospect Park, to accompany me to an outdoor brunch, or even (if they're comfortable and with the owner's permission) I may even take them to work with me during the summers. I've also looked after my fair share of cats making sure to play with them and clean out the litter daily. I've sat for multiple cats at the same time with 3 being the most at once, but I cannot board cats as my partner is allergic.

Information Adrienne A. would like to know about your pet

I do not have a breed preference. I love all types of dogs/pets. But, I do have some questions to better know more about your dog/pet. I don’t really have dealbreakers so I ask for owners to be upfront and honest about behaviors in order to get a better idea of what to expect so I can be prepared. Are they house trained? Can they be around kids? How are they around other dogs/animals? Are there any types of people that they react oddly to? (ie nervous around men, etc) How are they on walks? Do they pull, are they relaxed or alert? Do they ever lunge at anyone? Are there certain commands that you use with them? Are they allowed on the furniture? Where do they usually sleep? Do they have any dietary restrictions? Are they ever fed “people food”? Can they have treats and if so how many is their limit? Is it normal for them not to eat when you’re away? Do they tend to be picky/finnicky eaters? Any quirky, unusual, or particular behaviors I should know about? What’s their favorite toy or activity? What behaviors should I be worried about or aware of? Is there anything in particular that they don’t like? (ex: getting close to their face, high-pitched noises, tall people, fireworks, motorcycles, touching their paws or another sensitive area) Is there anything that gives them anxiety or causes them to become reactive or aggressive?

A typical day

DOGS: I like to go to Prospect Park a lot and around Grand Army Plaza. I have also brought dogs to the dog park on 4th ave & 4th street. Sometimes I try to teach dogs new tricks, if I have enough time with them, or even to continue training that you might be currently working on with them. Otherwise, we will play for long periods of time, if that's their jam. I sit for a lot of dogs that love to play fetch or tug and there are times that I will spend 1 to 2 hours throwing the ball or just tugging a toy back and forth. If it's a dog that particularly likes to destroy toys, my partner likes to buy tough toys for them and see if they're able to tear it apart. So far every dog has succeeded lol. CATS: Generally if the cats like to play with toys, I can entertain them with those. I've found that not many cats need a lot of entertaining as they are fine being by themselves, but I'm always happy to give them lots of pets when they want it.

**Summer 2024 - I am around for the majority of the summer (June/July) due to a masters program that I will be participating in. I’m still figuring out my dates and August I will probably be traveling. I no longer work from home and my job is 40mins away from my apartment. If the sit is during a work week, I cannot provide afternoon walks, however because I'm a teacher I do get certain days/weeks/months off throughout the school year and during those times I can sit during the "work week." I can generally petsit from a Friday evening to a Monday morning before 8am...unless it is catsitting, then I can do feedings throughout the week early in the mornings and after work. General Availability due to teaching schedule Jan: MLK, Jr Day (Friday evening before until Monday evening, or Tuesday morning before 8am) Feb: Week of President's Day April: Week of Spring break (often starts with Good Friday and ends with Easter weekend) May: Memorial Day weekend (Friday evening to Monday evening) June: Can do full-time sitting after the last day of school which is around 26th-28th. July: most of the month, but I might schedule some traveling throughout this month. August: please inquire as it changes from year to year and I may travel. September: school year starts the Tuesday after Labor Day, but I'm generally free Labor Day Weekend, but there are several Jewish holidays that the dates vary. October: Indigenous People's Day weekend November: Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving December: 24th to Jan 1st -- but I usually book this in advance.
