Dog Trainer in Training

Pet care experience

I have been enamored with dogs since I can remember. In fact I was so obsessed that my first word was "doggie"! Anyone who meets me will know that dogs are my passion within the first 3 minutes of knowing me, it's all I talk about! In highschool, I got my real start with dog training with Guide Dogs for the Blind. I socialized dogs, trained puppies, and dog sat for them multiple times. During highschool I also trained my personal dog to become a service animal for me as I had some medical issues that were getting worse around that time. I've volunteered with animal shelters, given shelter dogs and cats vaccines, trained and bathed the shelter dogs, and spent the most time just loving on them. I also worked in a pet grooming salon for a year, handling aggressive animals, bathings them properly, and giving basic cuts and tidy ups to all different breeds of dogs (and cats!). Currently I'm taking the steps to work towards becoming a professional service dog trainer, as I believe that that is my passion and purpose in this life. If I didn't have dogs, I don't know what I would do. Dogs saved my life, specifically my first dog Sam, and I want to give back to them. And I want to educate owners as well about how to better care for/understand their dogs and therefore have a deeper, more rewarding relationship. My main goal is to create a program where I adopt dogs from shelters and train them to become service animals of all different types for those that need them. I want to name it after Sam and hopefully one day be able to donate service dogs to disabled people in need free of charge. I know I will fulfill this one day, and by meeting all the wonderful pups (and their people!) here on Rover, I gain more and more experience that I can use to build the foundation for this dream. Your business is making a true difference, and I appreciate every single one of my clients from the bottom of my heart. Each booking allows me to save up for college, for my future, for my dream, for those in need, both dog and human alike. So thank you, truly.

Abigal was wonderful! She took good care of our puppy and was very attentive to his needs when he got sick while we were away.

Abigail is fantastic. She handled our two dogs like a pro, and they can be a challenge. She put us at ease and kept us updated with photos and texts. The dogs made a new best friend! We would absolutely hire her again. She is excellent and really understands dogs.

Abigail is the best dog and house sitter you can ask for! She is super professional, an amazing communicator and my dog LOVED her(me too). As promised in her profile description, she provided regular updates and photos of my dog while I was out of town. This was something I did not receive from my last dog sitter and when Abigail provided this without me asking, I was relieved, and it brought me a lot of comfort and assurance that my dog was doing well. I have a German Shepherd so I don’t let other sitters walk her, but Abigail wants to be a professional dog trainer, so she knows how to handle a dog like mine that has reactivity issues; she had no problem walking my dog around my neighborhood. They went on a walking adventure and it was nice to know that Abigail could continue my dog’s daily walks. In addition, Abigail played fetch with her at home which I know my dog enjoys very much. She provided training as evident in photos and videos sent to me, and it was exciting to see my dog learn new things from Abigail. I, also, took advantage of her grooming service and my dog got a much-needed bath from her. She did an excellent job and I came back to a super soft, sweet-smelling dog! I could tell from the photos and videos that my dog had an incredible time with Abigail, and I know my dog misses her now! Abigail left my house in great shape and there were no complaints from the neighbors(has happened once with another sitter). I’m grateful to have met Abigail, and I highly recommend her as a Rover sitter. She’s the best!

Abigail is great. We had a meet and greet and was so good with our little weirdo. She is really interactive with her and I really appreciate her rover card summaries.

Due to the current landlord circumstances, I will not be bringing client dogs into my house. However I am available to pet sit in home! I send updates and pictures of client dogs to their owners multiple times a day. I believe that dogs (and all animals, really) thrive with routine, and I don't want to disturb that. So please, tell me how you train! Tell me what commands you use and how you use them, what your day together usually looks like. I will replicate this to the best of my abilities for the comfort of your furry friend. My main goal is for your pet to be happy, calm, and comfortable, and for you to be worry-free!

Information Abigail o. would like to know about your pet

I ask that you please let me know if your dog/cat has any special needs or behaviors that I need to account for. This includes extreme allergies, neurological issues, medication schedules, extreme fear, aggression, reactivity, or anything else of this nature. I do have a cardiac alert service dog that will come to my bookings. She alerts me to oncoming medical episodes which classifies her as medical equipment. However she is very friendly and loves other dogs and people. That being said, if your pet does not get along with dogs, unfortunately I would not be a compatible sitter for you. Thank you!

A typical day

I provide dogs with plenty of physical stimulation (hiking, walking) but also mental stimulation as well (puzzle games, training sessions, kongs, lickimats, etc.) as I believe that is one of the most important aspects of dog care. My cardiac alert service dog Jumanji, whom comes to all of my bookings, also loves to play with dogs and will do so all day long if I let her!

Having recently and rather unexpectedly moved to the Central Oregon area, I am currently unemployed. Though I do plan to start school in the Fall of 2024 (hopefully I will have updated this by then haha). As of right now I have all the time in the world for your pups! For house-sitting bookings, I may have overlapped bookings for drop-in visits which would mean I would need to be away from the house for 1-2 hours. Other than this, I can remain at the house full-time if requested. I am very flexible so please don't hesitate to ask questions! I will work around you. Please note that I am disabled, but this does not mean I am unable in any way shape or form to do my job. I do utilize a cardiac alert service dog as my medical equipment and she is always present.
