Nikolaas was an amazing dog sitter to our two pups. Our boys can get anxious without us, but they loved him. He was super communicative, sent lots of updates and pictures, and I felt much more at ease leaving home. We will definitely book him in the future.

I can’t say enough good things about Robbyn. Jackson immediately connected with her, and he was more relaxed than I’ve ever seen him for a high energy puppy. She kept the place spotless, communicated regularly, and sent plenty of photos so I always knew he was doing well. I’m truly grateful for the care she provided, and I will definitely be booking with her again.

Angie house sit for my 14 week old puppy while I was at the conference for 4 days. I was very impressed by how much she was attentive to my puppy, letting me know how he was doing on a regular basis, and even training him a few commands. I came home, finding much better-behaving dog, and her notes about what she observed about my dog and suggestions. My puppy and I definitely look forward to seeing her again!

Hannah was able to help on short notice when I had to unexpectedly extend a trip due to illness. She asked lots of questions to make sure she was on top of everything, especially since we weren't able to do a usual meet and greet in advance. She kept me informed about the pets during her entire stay. Her willingness to be flexible and communicative made an awful situation less stressful.

They need medications and have a very detailed routine and Jennifer did everything they needed with no issues or concerns. Thank you so much! She is our favorite sitter now! 🙏

Robert spent a weekend caring for our fur babies. We had a meet and greet prior to his stay and he did a thorough assessment of our animals needs to make sure he provided top notch care. Over the weekend he sent pictures and updates. I knew my fur babies were well-taken care of.

About: I am a dog lover and I’m comfortable with all breeds. I had multiple pets including a dog and cat that I took care of growing up. I currently have no pets but have recently taken care of friends’ dogs. This has included overnight and daytime boarding at my house while taking care of all walking, playing, and feeding needs. I’m currently working PRN (part time) as a physical therapist and I have a lot of flexibility and freedom in my schedule. I’m looking to fill some of this free time with something that I’ve always enjoyed, taking care of pets. I am trustworthy, clean, and respectful of others homes when entering to care for their pets. I am happy to walk your dog wherever they normally like to go around your home.

Morgan did a fantastic job while my husband and I had to leave the state to attend a family emergency. We have a 3 year old husky and 2 year old lab both full of energy. She sent us pictures of how the boys were doing as well as letting us know when our husky was getting a lil separation anxiety and not really eating. Our lab was on 2 medications and Morgan made sure our lab was staying on track and when our lab ran out of salami to hide the pills in she had purchased some with her own money to make sure he was okay. 1000% recommend and in the future will definitely look to see if she is available.

Antonio did a great job with my crew. He was incredibly responsive and thorough. I have a head strong arthritic German shepherd, a pit mix (couch potato), and a relatively anxious/hesitant husky mix…as well as a cat who acts like he’s a dog and attempts to escape whenever possible. I’m always hesitant whether a sitter is prepared to manage multiple large dogs, but Antonio had no issues. We came home to a clean home and happy pets, which is all I can ask for!

We would highly recommend Zimir! He stayed with our Pit Bull, Cat, Parakeet, and Parrot. He took excellent care of each. Also maintained a clean home. We came to a very happy household. It was obvious that each pet was not only cared for but received attention and love. We would recommend him to any family and appreciated his professionalism and daily photos to assure us while away.

About: I am going to treat your dog like my own if not better. I have two dogs Bailey and Princess who were rescue dogs. Bailey was mean and and could not wear a collar. Princess was malnurished and skin issues. Now both dogs are heathly, friendly. It amazes me how much they have grown. They would love guests and enjoy play time. All i ask is that u tell me your babies schedule and likes and dislikes. I have fenced yard where your dogs can run around play freely and I take dogs to parks and trails. Plenty of treats, and playtime, and love. If you like i can come to your home so your fur babies can feel more comfortable. Home away from home is how it should be. I do pet sit/ Rover on a part-time basis that's why my rates are lower than most.

About: I’ve had a pet (dogs, cat and rabbit) since I was 9 years old. I’ve personally cared for my own pets, family member’s pets, family friends and been recommended to friends of family. I’ve walked the dogs, played with them, fed them, made sure they are taken care of, and most importantly- feel secure and loved while their loved ones are away! I’ve taken part in puppy training classes for my current dog and am familiar with calming techniques and proper training for puppies or older dogs. I’m very active and love to keep the dogs company, whether that be taking them for a walk around the block, to their favorite dog park (if okay with owners of course), or just playing fetch in the backyard! I currently work full time but am available both weekends anytime and during the week after 3 pm. I do make every effort to spend as much time as possible caring and attending to your furry friend! I make sure to ensure the pets have water at all times, a clean environment, and a safe environment free from any hazards. I personally take my dog’s collar off if he is in his crate but would check with clients if they prefer that while I am gone. I make sure they get enough exercise and play time (and snuggles!)

FAQs for House Sitting - Gates

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 132 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Gates. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Gates walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Gates maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Gates choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Gates. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
