“We had such a wonderful experience! From the very beginning, they were kind, professional, communicative, and clearly passionate about caring for dogs. I felt completely comfortable knowing my dog was in such great hands. They kept me updated throughout the stay and treated my dog like their own. It was such a relief knowing my pup was happy, safe, and well cared for. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and loving to care for their pets. We will definitely be booking with them again! 🐾❤️”

“Lou had such a great time again with Elisabeth while we were away! We absolutely loved all of the updates and she looked so happy and relaxed in every photo and video!”

“I’m so happy we found Sergey at the last minute. My two dogs stayed with Sergey’s for six nights. They came home tired, happy, and clean. Sergey was extremely flexible with our timing when our travel was delayed. I would not hesitate to recommend Sergey as a pet sitter.”

“Mariah, Kyle and family took good care of our 10 yr. old Portuguese Water Dog during our week long family vacation. They treated him like he was part of the family and he enjoyed being around their dog and another one they were also boarding. Having a fenced in yard was perfect for playing and getting exercise. They were easy to communicate with and wonderful about giving regular updates and sending photos.”

“Rebecca was the perfect match for our Lucy, who had an excellent stay. She communicated clearly with us and updated us with messages and pictures. She followed all of our instructions. We will absolutely use her again.”

“Katie was excellent! Professional, thoughtful, patient, and communicative. We boarded our cat with her, and she did a wonderful job acclimating him to a new space and monitoring his adjustment, and making sure his needs were met. Would love to use her for our next trip.”

About: 35 years of experience caring for dogs, puppies, kittens & cats. I’m good with anxious dogs & scaredy cats. I have a flexible schedule, let me know how I can help. I am currently doing Rover full-time. For many years i have lived in homes with pets and helped care for them. Currently living in a home with 1 cat, 1 dog, and 12 chickens. We also do doggy day care and do boarding- so we keep pretty busy. I always walk dogs on their leashes. I make sure to keep medications and other harmful things locked away. We have a fenced in yard, but i’m always out there with them. I try to take as good care for your animals as if they were my own.

“We left our dog with Blair and her pack for a few nights. Blair was patient and a great listener to learn about our dog's needs. Her own dogs are great with other dogs. Blair communicated frequently with updates and photos while our dog was staying with her. She and her dogs were very accommodating for our dog. I would definitely bring our dog back as needed and recommend Blair's service to others.”

“Elvis had an AWESOME time with Christine and I felt very comfortable leaving him with her. She frequently sent photos of him and he always looked comfortable and happy. I will definitely be bringing Elvis to Christine again!”

“Lindsay was great! We were traveling to Portland from out of town and she was very clear and prompt with communication to arrange plans. The girls had a relaxing evening with Lindsay.”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs and cats of family and friends since I was in my teens, but more extensively in college and since. For 3 years I boarded and sat for three different family friends. I’ve personally helped raise 3 dogs and 2 cats. I’ve even helped herd sheep and tamed alpacas! I work nearly full-time as a server at a restaurant, so Wednesday to Saturday night I’m unavailable for somewhere between 6-9 hours on those days. When I have my off days I’m usually at home or out for a walk. I’m usually efficient with my errands and have extensive free time on off days. My apartment is a one bedroom, so if I’m not playing around the apartment with the pet, I’d want to bring them on a walk or to the park. I have a very comfortable bedroom conducive to nap time, and I live in the heart of Old Port. Whenever I am with pets in my house I am always looking to set up a cozy space for them to relax with blankets, pillows, their favorite toys. I try to make them feel like a proper guest in my home like anyone else. My apartment is always very quiet despite being downtown, but I would hope to find activities we could do in and around Portland to help keep them active and entertained.
“Emily is an excellent and caring cat sitter. She sent me daily photos and updates, which gave me great peace of mind while I was away. My cats were very well cared for, and I truly appreciated her kindness and reliability. I would be happy to ask Emily to care for my cats again in the future.”

“Lauren is amazing! My dog Albie who can be pretty shy loved Lauren. He felt right at home and getting photo updates of him looking and living his best life made me feel much better. She really is amazing and cannot recommend her highly enough.”

“Natalie took care of our older Italian Greyhound for a long weekend. She listened thoughtfully to all the intel on Poe we thought would be helpful for a great visit (including wardrobe info!). We felt at ease leaving him in her care. She picked up on his quirks very quickly and adjusted to his behavior/needs. She understands dogs. Highly recommend her!”

“Jenna was very great! I came from out of town and we even had a change of schedule and she adjusted for us. She was very responsive and sent pictures. She was on time and communicated well!”

“It has been years since we have been able to leave home without the whole crew. Kristin was professional and communicative and provided pictures throughout our stay. Would absolutely hire her again.”

“Amanda and Austen were great with our 5 year old lab! We got regular updates and photos daily which was very appreciated. It felt like they truly loved our dog and treated him like their own. They really got to know him and his personality. They kept him busy and exercised with plenty of outside time!”

“Lindsay did such a great job with our pug, Chloe. She sent photos, played with her, took her for long walks. When we picked Chloe up - she was perfectly calm and clearly felt comfortable and lived with Lindsay.”

“Wendy provided a loving home for our pup, Freddy, during extended travel for our family. Wendy's dog Elka was an instant friend to Freddy and knowing that he was safe, busy and receiving wonderful care took away a lot of anxiety. We look forward to Freddy staying with Wendy again in the future.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Fort Baldwin home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Fort Baldwin.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Fort Baldwin sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in ME ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
