About: Since I was born I have been involved with animals. We’ve had birds, dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, and wildlife. I’ve taken care of some of the coolest animals and it’s a huge passion of mine! I’m currently working as a vet tech at a non profit vet clinic/animal rescue so working with animals is a huge passion of mine. I’m starting school in the fall to get my prerequisites done and then hopefully onto vet school! I love my pets so I will love yours just as much and treat them as my own. I’ve been around animals since I was born and am always trying to rescue/help some kind of animal!

I’m so thankful for Erika! I was nervous about leaving our 14 year old cocker spaniel Sophie for a week long trip. Erika was conscientious, communicative, flexible, professional, kind, trustworthy, mature, and responsible! She really loves animals. I can’t recommend her highly enough. When we returned home, Sophie was peaceful and content, calm and happy. Thank you, Erika, for making our vacation enjoyable by taking such good care of Sophie and our home.

At our meet and greet, my first impression of Daniel was, he has a very calm demeanor. Murphy is a very large and energetic dog. Daniel didn't flinch when he came barreling in towards him. He stayed with Pebbles and Murphy for 3 days. He was very early the first day. His communication is OUTSTANDING! I received so many pictures and updates. He even took out the trash! On one day, one of the dogs had vomited before he got here. He sent me pictures and asked what I'd like him to do. The next text I got said that he cleaned it all up, and that there were towels in the trash that he brought with him. He is so prepared, punctual, responsible, and trustworthy. I'm so glad I found him on Rover. I will most definitely book him again if he's willing to come back. I can't say enough good things about Daniel. I was able to relax and truly enjoy my time away with my new grandson and not worry about our fur babies. They were in excellent hands.

Brooklyn came right in and took charge, and Tufa took to her very quickly. She didn't get a ton of acclimation time or instruction due to short notice for care, and my crazy busy day. I was impressed with how at ease she was with the situation and that made it so much easier for me. Brooklyn definitely cares about providing top notch care for your pets, I highly recommend her and hope to have her care for Tufa again.

About: I have always had a love for all kinds of animals. Ive enjoyed watching family and friends pets as well as caring for my own pets in my apartment. I'd love to get to know you and your unique pet and make them feel even more loved and appreciated. I have past background knowledge on pet nutrition, hygiene and behavior traits. I do have a dog with me, her name is Maze. Maze is a rescue, she stays in my room and going on walks multiple times a day as well as dog parks, she would love to have a friend. Maze eats 2 times a day once in the morning and once in the evening with a snack (can of tuna/shredded chicken) in the afternoon. Maze talks walks in a harness to provide safely,we do have an extra! I have cats as well, the are allowed to freely roam around with little latches that keep bedroom doors open just enough for them to go in and out, they are also fed twice a day with wet food and have dry kibble out for free feeding through the day, since they have smaller stomachs they eat more frequently, howver the dry food is only filled once it runs out completely, the cats also have a running water fountain as well as other water bowls on elevated surfaces. Their are plenty of pet beds, toys and treats, if their are any allergies please let me know!

About: I always insure that pets are comfortable! I’ve taken care of old cats and dogs, and I when they are old like that it’s important to meet their needs first, as most of the time they need a lot of guidance and help. I am currently going into online college, so most of my day is free! I often sit down and watch TV or play video games, but I mostly enjoy writing and drawing in my free time I personally like to ask owners how there pets are in the company of others, as well as if any weather bugs them! The comfort of my pets, and owners is always my number 1 priority! I want to make sure that they are comfortable around me, and I never approach any animal until I’ve let them sniff me, it’s important that they trust me to be around them.

About: I’m an active adventurous person ready to play with the dogs or take them on walks. I have helped family, friends and neighbors watch their dogs, whether it be just a check in or a week at a time! I work as a phlebotomist in my other times, help family and create crafts for my page! Seeing as I have a cat of my own, I make sure to put her into my daily schedule and make time for her to play with her and her as well as make sure her litter stays clean and her food and water bowl stay full! My cat is an indoor cat. Although she is aloof, she still loves to come cuddle and I always make sure that her food and water bowls are full, her litter is clean and her medicine is taken

About: I’ve had dogs and cats since I was born and have been dog-sitting for my parents for years now when they go on vacation and I have my own cats that I take care of completely on my own. I also had my own dog for 8 years before he passed. I choose my own hours for my job and will be almost always available to take care of any pets that need it, I’ll always be home when sitting an animal to make sure I am focusing on the care I have a large fenced yard, two out of three sides are privacy fences. I have two dogs of my own but they have a crate they can stay in and I have 3 cats that stay in their rooms that are usually kept locked. Unless you’re comfortable with them being together, I’ll keep my pets completely put away and yours will get my attention and the space of the house!

FAQs for House Sitting - De Kalb

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of June 2026, there are 208 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across De Kalb. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred De Kalb walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in De Kalb maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in De Kalb choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in De Kalb. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
