Multiple request for same dates- how to handle?

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been asked before, so sorry about that.

I frequently get multiple requests for the same dates. Whoever messages me first, assuming their dogs seem like a good fit, I schedule a meet-and-greet. Three times now different owners have cancelled the meet-and-greet last minute because family members offered to sit or whatnot. However, in the meantime I always let the other owners requesting know that I have a booking pending and can't guarantee my availability.

So-- how do you all handle multiple booking requests? Should I be booking multiple meet-and-greets and then whoever books me first gets it (while also letting them all know that others are interested in the same dates)? A lot of my requests this summer have been so last-minute, so I don't want anyone to put all their eggs in one basket and then have me deny the booking because someone else booked first.

Thanks!

My practice is first person to book that I am willing to accept after meet and greet gets it. But this is your business and there is always exceptions to any rule. I do usually let people know other clients are inquiring about the same date as well and so if they can let me know as soon as possible if I don't hear from them within a certain time frame usually 24 hours after meet and greet I can not guarantee availability. A lot of times that will help you book up quicker as well. Good luck.

Most sitters try to schedule their M&G's as quickly as possible to narrow the field if they have multiple requests. It is always a juggling act as you want a booking but it must be with a good client and dog that works for you. Over time as your client base increases it becomes easier as repeat clients don't need a M&G and you can book them immediately after receiving the request. Best of luck
