When not to say your dog’s name: Use this puppy-training tip to give positive reinforcement.
This Rover Dog Hack comes from one of our own Rover employees:
“When disciplining your dog or punishing your dog for something he or she did, try really hard to not use their name. It will be much harder to get them to come when called if they associate their name with something negative.”
If you follow this rule, your dog will have positive associations with his or her name, and will be much more likely to obey directions when you’re calling them to go outside, get in the car, or go for a walk–or do anything you’d like them to do.
It’s a simple thing, really–but it can make a big impact as you train your puppy.
