When spending time in Asbury, you may want to take your pup to a nice beach to cool off. We’ve found one close by that you’ll enjoy—and your pup will love it too!

The 8th Avenue Dog Beach (8th Ave & Ocean Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712) is a nice spot to bring your dog from the beginning of October through May 15, when dogs are allowed on the beach all day long. In the summer they’re still allowed, but can only visit after 6 p.m. and before 8:30 a.m. (but at least it’s cooler then!).
You’ll also find plenty of pups and people at this beach. Dogs love running up and down the big sand dunes, socializing and splashing in the surf. Most owners and furry friends are good-natured, and the locals pride themselves on keeping the beach clean and picking up after themselves. Help them out and do the same!

Feel like grabbing a cold drink in Asbury after your trip to the beach? Visit Wonder Bar Yappy Hour (1213 Ocean Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712) after, where pups are welcome to chill and socialize. Wonder Bar hosts a Doggie Happy Hour weekly, usually on Thursdays. At all other times, they’re still welcome to hang out while you throw back a cold one. There are even a couple of little pools for them to cool off in since the patio can get a little toasty. The friendly vibe, good food, and fun atmosphere are ideal for rounding out your day at the beach.
