Dog Beach at Leo Carrillo State Park
35000 W Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA
Though nothing beats running free through the sand with your tail-waggin’ bestie by your side, it can sometimes be difficult to find beaches in Southern California that’ll allow dogs. Luckily there is an amazing dog beach at Leo Carrillo State Park, located about 30 miles northwest of Santa Monica. Known as a haven for swimming, surfing, and beach combing, this area is beloved by locals (and tourists!) who enjoy hiking and exploring the tide pools, coastal caves and reefs.
Playful pups are allowed on leash, but there are very specific rules if you want to bring your furry friend with you. Dogs are allowed on a maximum 6 foot leash, and must remain west of lifeguard tower 3. They are not allowed east of lifeguard tower 3 at the park, and they can’t romp around in the tide pools (not matter how much they want to!). Just follow the rules on the posted signs and you and your dog will have a blast.
Parking is $12 to park all day (and less if you’re only staying for any hour or two), but there’s no entry after 10 p.m., so make sure you’ve tired your pup out by then.
Need to leave your dog in Malibu while you travel? Want someone familiar with the area to take them out for a stroll if you’re too busy? Rest easy knowing that you can easily hire a local dog boarder or dog walker who will be happy to take care of your pup!
