Mikel Delgado is a cat behavior consultant and postdoctoral fellow at the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. She has worked professionally with cats for almost twenty years. She offers consultations for cat guardians and rescue organizations to prevent and solve behavior problems. Mikel is co-author with Jackson Galaxy of the 2017 book “Total Cat Mojo,” and has published her research in several academic journals.
She received her PhD from UC Berkeley, where she studied animal behavior and the human-animal relationship. Mikel’s current research is focused on the behavior of cats in multi-cat households, the health and development of orphaned neonatal kittens, and on the effects of enrichment and the environment and general well-being in cats.
Mikel is a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (Animal Behavior Society), a Certified Cat Behavior Consultant (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants), and an Affiliate Member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. She now lives in Sacramento, California with her boyfriend Scott (a cat-loving CPA) and their very happy rescue cat, Clarabelle.
