Rover Referral Link & Profile Sharing—FAQs for Sitters
🔗 About the New Referral Link
Q: What’s changed with inviting pet owners to Rover?
A: Sitters now invite potential new pet owners with a unique referral link instead of a promo code. When pet owners sign up for a Rover account via this link, the discount is automatically applied to their first booking; no code required.
Q: Why did Rover switch from promo codes to referral links with auto-applied discounts?
A: We made this change to help you get more bookings from your invites. Promo codes added an extra step during the booking, which created friction and led to fewer bookings. With the discount now applied automatically via your link, pet owners signing up for Rover have a smoother experience, and that means you’re more likely to get more bookings.
Q: What happened to my promo code?
A: Your original promo code is still active, but it now functions as a manual coupon and is not tied to a referral reward for the sitter.
Q: Who is my link valid for?
A: Your referral link is intended for pet owners creating a Rover profile for the first time. If an existing pet owner or a pet owner with an existing Rover account (even one with zero bookings) follows your link, they will be redirected to your profile but will not receive the auto-applied discount.
Q: Can I customize or rename my referral link?
A: Not at this time. We realize that a custom or simpler link would be helpful and are exploring ways to improve this.
👀 Profile Visibility and Pet Owner Experience
Q: Do people have to create an account to see my profile now?
A: To see your full profile, yes; however, anyone can view a preview of your profile by following your unique link. Full profiles are visible to anyone who is signed in to Rover.
Q: Can I share my profile with returning or existing pet owners?
A: Yes! If someone is already on Rover and signed in, your link will take them directly to your full profile.
Q: Why can’t pet owners see my reviews or photos?
A: Pet owners can now see your reviews before signing up, helping them get to know you better straight away. Photos aren’t currently included in this view, but we’re exploring ways to add them in the future. Anyone who is signed in to Rover can still see your full profile, including all reviews and photos.
🧾 Business Cards, QR Codes and Promo Materials
Q: How do I get hold of business cards or Rover-branded materials?
A: We’re not currently selling promotional materials or business cards, but we’re working on relaunching marketing tools for sitters, including offline materials such as cards and magnets.
Q: Can I download a QR code or print-ready file for my profile?
A: You can find your QR code in your Rover account and use it to quickly share your profile with pet owners, either in person or online. Although we don’t have a print-ready file at this time, you can always take a screenshot of your QR code to share online or print a physical copy. We’re considering offering free downloads to help you advertise your pet-sitting services in the future.
💬 Feedback and Preferences
Q: I prefer to give out a promo code; it feels more personal. Can we have both options?
A: We hear you. Although we’ve moved to links to simplify the process for pet owners, your code is still active and you can share it with pet owners as a manual coupon code. We’re also exploring ways to offer more flexibility in the future.
Q: Why remove the old share button? I liked being able to share without the promo element.
A: We made this change to streamline the experience for new pet owners. However, we recognize that more flexible sharing (without a discount) would be useful and we’re reviewing that feedback.
Q: Can I personalize my sharing link?
A: Not right now; however, we understand why this would be helpful and are evaluating options for future improvements.
