Take it from any dog parent: having dog treats close by and ready to dispense is very handy. That goes double for pet parents training a feisty puppy or walking a hound who has a nose with a mind of their own. A portable dog treat pouch makes rewards easy to dole out for good behavior at any time and place, reinforcing training that much more (and protecting your clothes pockets from treat leftovers).

There’s a huge range of treat-pouch styles. For pet parents on the go, there are waist-wrapping utility pouches with high carrying capacity and lots of pockets. For the more casual walk or cafe hangout, there are lightweight shoulder bags with a slim profile. Some dog treat bags clip to pants, others buckle around the waist, and still others have a crossbody strap—or some combination of the three.

To guide your choice, look for treat bags that make it easiest for you to access treats fast—making an instant connection between behavior and reward is key for your pup. You’ll also want to consider the material. Some fabrics and styles are more durable than others and have varying weatherproof or reflective qualities.

Best Overall: Ruffwear Treat Trader

Ruffwear Treat Trader pouch in blue

Ruffwear Treat Trader

This lightweight pouch is made from water-resistant fabric and has a small external pocket to store a clicker or a roll of poop bags.

Shop on Amazon

This tidy little treat pouch from Ruffwear is ergonomically designed to mold to your hip. It’s made from water-resistant fabric to keep your pet’s treats fresh and dry, even on rainy days, and it does a lot with not much space. A small carabiner can hold a training clicker, while a little external pocket is good for storing everything from poop bags to a spare house key.

Its best feature, though, is a unique magnetic clasp that makes it easy to open and close one-handed when you’re on the move or juggling a leash or two. We also like its versatility: it can be worn on a belt or over the shoulder.

Key Features:

  • Outer fabric is durable and lightweight
  • Pouch is ergonomic and comfortable to carry
  • Multiple carry options: on a belt or over the shoulder
  • 6 in. x 5.3 in. x 4.9 in.

Best Fanny Pack: Wilderdog Utility Pack (Verified Review)

brown and white dog catches treat from wilderdog utility pack

Wilderdog Utility Pack

Have a lot to carry on walks? This large Wilderdog fanny pack has three pockets to hold all your things.

Shop on Amazon

Fanny pack treat pouches are great for carrying everything you need in addition to your treats, and this bag by Wilderdog really takes the cake (or should we say cookie?). Separated by three water-resistant utility pockets, it offers tons of room.

In fact, our tester fit all of the following on multiple trips: a Stasher bag full of treats, a dog chew, phone, keys, poop bag roll, emergency spray, a point-and-shoot camera, and a small squeaky ball. We especially liked that the main pocket is quite deep, helping to prevent items from falling out when reaching into the pack.

Key Features:

  • Adjusts from 33’’ to 48’’ around; doubles as a crossbody bag or fanny pack
  • Available in three stylish colors
  • Outer webbing for clip-on accessories
  • Includes a poop bag dispenser
  • Interior is lined with water-resistant fabric
  • 10 in. x 6 in. x 2 in.

The silicone material makes the pouch extremely lightweight and easy to carry.

Shop on Amazon

This dog treat pouch has a large-capacity pocket with a magnetic opening plus a pull cord for quick open/close. The ergonomic shape (no corners for treats to get stuck in and no extra time wasted fishing around) makes it especially good for a quick draw, and despite its large size, it isn’t bulky to carry. Woman walks two dogs, wearing wild one treat pouch in purple

Wild One Treat Bag

This treat holder has an extra pouch for phone or keys, plus a poop bag dispenser, and can be worn over the shoulder or around the waist.

Shop on Amazon

This purse-like dog treat pouch can be carried over the shoulder or like a fanny pack (which, as you know, are never out of style). Made from 100% recycled materials, it has a convenient storage pocket to keep your phone and keys separate from crumbly treats, plus a built-in poop bag dispenser. The treat holder itself is durable, and a handy magnetic top keeps treats from spilling out.

Our testers did note, however, that access to treats isn’t quite as easy as some pouches, especially when you’re wearing the pouch as a cross body bag.

Key Features:

  • Multiple options to wear (purse or fanny-pack style, though note that the strap may need additional pinning to size down sufficiently)
  • Two utility pockets
  • Made with 100% recycled knit in a range of colors, with seasonal options available
  • 8.63 in. x 6.25 in. x 0.75 in.

Consider:

  • Hand wash with mild soap recommended
