Recently, a family was shocked when their chocolate Lab’s first litter of puppies included a green puppy. The group contained four male yellow labs in addition to the green female. That’s right, green! Named Princess Fiona or Fifi for her unique coloring, the pup is actually quite healthy—and completely normal.
Meet Princess Fiona, the green labrador
Why was the puppy born green?
A chemical called biliverdin, which makes bile (and sometimes healing bruises) turn green is the culprit behind Fiona’s unique color. The level of biliverdin in Fiona’s birth sac was uncommonly high, staining her fur. The condition is not dangerous, just rare.
We’re thinking she’s going to be one lucky dog.
