- Possum Creek Park
1. Dogwood Park
Spanning more than 15 acres of tree-covered grass, Dogwood Park is a canine paradise where dogs can roam off-leash and explore to their hearts’ content. If Fido doesn’t mind getting a little wet, the grounds also have access to maintained (gator-free!) water ponds. Is your dog in need of a bit of agility training? Dogwood’s staff offers training for all levels, with obstacles to challenge the nimblest of pets.
2. Northeast Park
Northeast Park is a hidden gem of Gainesville dog parks. Feel free to peruse the dog-friendly space while enjoying oak trees that pre-date the 19th century and pines adorned in Spanish moss–it’s a serene environment that encourages a more tranquil experience with your dog. Drinking water and benches are also available when you’re ready for a break. However, if you’re dog isn’t quite a Zen Master, don’t fear. Active dogs are welcome to get a little rowdy in the park’s fenced area.
3. Squirrel Ridge Park
This large, 17-acre dog park has a little something for everyone: a large soccer field, an outdoor memorial, a playground for kids, and plenty of nature. The outdoor recreation possibilities are endless. Like Northeast Park, Squirrel Ridge Park has a fenced-in area with a water spigot, plenty of trees, and chairs for you to lounge in while the canines play. This way, dog-less humans can have their space while your pet runs free.
4. Possum Creek Park
Does your small dog not get along with the colossal canines–or vice versa? If either is the case, you might consider Possum Creek Park. There is a separate fenced-in area for small and large dogs, so all can rough house in their doggy wheelhouse. For the humans, there are also acres of activities, including a skate park, a large playground for children, and a family-friendly picnic area (your furry family can join, too, if they’re on a leash). It that’s not your flavor of kibble, you can always take stroll on one of the two short nature trails–there’s plenty for your pooch to discover on each.
