It’s the Year of the Dog and the year of the doggo. Where once the internet was full of LOLcats speaking LOLspeak, we now find ourselves in the throes of Doggo Lingo, the colorful language of online dog lovers. It got its start in the memes that dog people love and share. Are you mystified? Intrigued? Looking to brush up? Here’s everything you need to know about internet dog slang.

You’re welcome.

You’re not crazy, it’s the year of the doggo

Don’t worry if you can’t tell a longboi from a heckin’ boofer. We’re here to help with a visual guide to the terminology of the doggo-verse.

Let’s start with a quick video overview, and then follow up with some more thorough definitions.

A video guide to doggo lingo

Doggos come in every size

Doggos come in a variety of sizes ranked by the size of their bork (bark). They range from the tiny yapper to a diminutive pupper, an average-sized doggo, and the biggest woofers and boofers.

This is otherwise known as the zoomies, when your doggo is going so fast they’re just a blur. Most doggos have a technical limit of three borks before they overdose into maximum borkdrive.

In X/10, the X is always more than 10 because all dogs are the best dog.

Some popular doggo breeds

  • Corgo – corgi
  • Cloud – super floofy floofers
  • Puggo – pug
  • Wrinkler – English bulldoggo
  • Doge / Shibe / Shoob – Shiba Inu and similar breeds
  • Long doggo – Traditionally refers to greyhounds, Saluki, borzoi etc
  • Moon Moon / Husker – huskies and malamutes
  • Pommer – Pomeranian
