A very good boy named Toby had his life turned upside down last year when his family decided to foster a blind Staffordshire terrier puppy.
Fast friends
Born without sight, Amos needed surgery and 4 months of home care while he convalesced. But when his medical foster was up, Jess Martin knew she could never let Amos go.
At 9 years old, Toby was fairly mature and settled when Amos joined the clan, and not overly social with other dogs by nature. But after a few initial growls, Toby and Amos soon found a rhythm to life together.
“When we went out on walks Amos was very scared, especially of the noises and Toby quickly picked up that he needed help – so every time Amos was stopping, Toby would go and lie next to him till he would be ready.” Jess shares.
At home, Toby is there to nudge Amos towards the water bowl, push open a door, or just cuddle up on the couch with Amos. The two even work on synchronized commands during training time.
Jess and her husband Billy were determined to provide Amos with as close to a normal upbringing and life as any sighted puppy would enjoy. and thanks to Toby the terrier, Amos has really learned how to let his light shine. From regular hikes and adventure to earning his Canine Good Citizen award, Toby is always right there to support Amos in whatever he wants to accomplish.
