Those of us with serious chewers know the value of a seriously durable dog toy. For the sake of your wallet, you need a quality dog toy that can take a chomping and keep on rocking—and for the sake of your dog’s safety, it should stay in one piece.
While no toy is truly “indestructible,” in our long association with power chewers, we’ve found that there’s virtually always a winner out there—it just looks different for different dogs. To help you find the right fit for your destructo-pup’s mouth shape and play style, we’ve rounded up our favorites.
For fetchers with powerful jaws, try ring- or doughnut-shaped toys. Heavy-duty ball and rope toys are for needle-toothed pups who love interactive play. And for the dogs who just need to chew, we’ve collected the toughest rubber toy we know of.
Only a couple of our picks are meant for chewing only—so remember that it’s a good idea to put away even the most indestructible toys in between play sessions if you want them to last with your power chewer.

Best Indestructible Stick Dog Toy: West Paw Hurley Bone
A lot of Rover dogs love this tough fetch and chew toy, which comes in three sizes. According to one pet parent, “Radar can toss it, bounce it, paw it, gnaw it, bury it under a blanket, and aside from a few toothmarks, it doesn’t show its age.” Another has had one of these last through two dogs, and it’s still going strong.
West Paw offers a whole range of durable rubber toys, but this bone is rated as one of the toughest in its collection. It’s recyclable and recycled: the material, Zogoflex, is partly made from old worn West Paw toys used to make new ones.
Key Features:
- Backed by West Paw’s Love It Guarantee
- Made in the U.S. from recycled materials
- Floats in water and bounces on land
- Dishwasher safe
Best Indestructible Bone Chew Toy: Nylabone Big Chew
These intensely durable, intensely flavored bones are made from compressed nylon and can stand up to intense chewing. Different kinds are rated for different types of chewers—and this one is rated one of the most indestructible, for power chewers.
The seven-inch monster bone lasts some chew-happy pups months or even years, making them good value. As with any chew toy, always supervise your dog’s chewing and remove the toy if you spot breakage.
Key Features:
- Infused with flavors, including chicken, to entice your pup
- Made in the U.S.
- Sized for dogs over 50 pounds
Best Indestructible Dog Ball for Fetch: ChuckIt! Ultra Ball
Plain old tennis balls are fine for dogs who don’t aren’t bent on destruction, but power-mouthed pooches need a ball with a tougher skin. The ChuckIt! Ultra Ball is made of bouncy rubber that can weather a whole lot of tossing, fetching, and yes, chewing. It’s a sturdy, affordable choice for a dog who loves playing fetch almost as much as they love using their teeth.
It’s also available with a squeaker for prey-motivated pups, and it’s compatible with the Chuckit! Ball Launcher for pet parents who need an extra arm.
Key Features:
- Bounces high and floats
- Easy to clean
- Can be used with Chuckit! Ball Launcher for more throwing power
Toughest Treat-Dispensing Ball: Ruffwear Huckama Ball
The Huckama is a slightly irregular ball made of natural latex rubber that bounces unpredictably when thrown. We like that it has holes to stuff with treats—a good choice for food-motivated dogs who need extra incentive to play. It’s especially popular among pups who’ve popped and shredded a graveyard’s worth of other balls. Pet parents with aggressive slobberers may want to know that this durable toy is hand-wash only.
Key Features:
- Floats in water
- Irregular shape gives it more unpredictable movement
- Holes you can stuff with treats to make it extra enticing
Best Indestructible Ring: Goughnuts Ring
Reviewers rave about Goughnuts toys indestructibility in the face of some of the biggest, toughest chewers, like German Shepherds and Rottweilers. The line has a few different variations, including tug toys and sticks, but these natural rubber rings are the company’s original indestructible dog toy. There are a few different size options so you can dial it in by your dog’s weight and chew strength. The family-owned company guarantees its toys for a lifetime.
Key Features:
- Comes in four sizes, for dogs as small as 10 pounds and up to dogs over 100 pound
- Lifetime warranty; if your dog damages the toy, Goughnuts will replace it
- Family-owned company, made in the U.S.
Best Ring for Small Dogs: KONG Rubber Ring
KONG toys are known for their durability, and this nearly indestructible rubber ring toy is no exception. Available in two sizes, 3.5 inches and 4.25 inches, this compact toy is best suited for small to medium dogs. Roll or toss it for a game of fetch; the irregular bumps create a fun bounce—they also create great texture for your pup’s teeth and gums when they take a chew break. Need an even more durable toy for your chewer? KONG’s “Extreme” line carries a bigger (5.25 inches), tougher version of this ring too.
Key Features:
- Made of natural rubber in the U.S.
- Great for small and medium dogs
- Works as a fetch toy and a chew toy
Best Indestructible Rope Toy: Mammoth Flossy Rope (Verified Review)
This versatile woven and knotted rope toy works as a chew toy and a tug toy—the threads get in between your pup’s teeth to “floss” them while they play. It comes in multiple sizes for power chewers of all shapes. The larger ones in particular were popular with test pup Pepper, who loved to wrestle with them before pinning them down for a good chew (a multi-day affair). Our human testers found them pleasingly textured with just the right amount of give for fetch and tug.
Key Features:
- 100% cotton
- Bonus teeth-cleaning via threads as they tug
- Knots give extra texture for chewing and grip for tugging
Best Indestructible Rope and Ball Combo: Jolly Pets Romp-n-Roll
Jolly Pets is another solid brand when it comes to indestructible dog toys, and the Romp-n-Roll is one of our favorites for versatility: toss it on land or water for fetch, play tug with it, kick it—there are lots of options.
Dogs love to run with it and shake it around—depending on your dog, the rope may get chewed up or removed, but the ball portion will keep on rolling, even if your dog manages to get a purchase on it with their teeth. You can also purchase replacement ropes directly from Jolly Ball if needed.
Key Features:
- Great for fetch on land or water
- Rope is great for launching it as well as playing tug
- Comes in three sizes
Best Indestructible Dog Disc Toy: KONG Flyer
While it’s not intended to be left around as a chew toy, dogs who like to put a little tug in their frisbee game will appreciate this tough rubber flyer from reliable brand KONG; reviewers rave about its durability. It comes in two colors and is dishwasher safe for cleaning.
Key Features:
- Comes in two sizes: 9 x 9 inches and 7 x 7 inches
- Flies and is a little bit irresistible as a tug toy
- Also comes in a puppy version for needle-toothed young dogs
Best No-Stuffing Plush: Outward Hound Invincibles (Verified Review)
Though no plush dog toy will be as tough as a rubber one, this stuffing-free snake is versatile and, per several Rover test pups, decently indestructible. That plus its size, shape, and enticing noises make it a rousing dog tug toy. It comes in two sizes to fit your pup’s style. If your dog is a certified squeaker extractor, chances are that you’ll still be able to play tug with this toy long after the squeaks have left the carcass (though do supervise carefully).
According to one Rover pet parent: “Skye, our German Shepherd, has the ability to pop tennis balls with about 30 seconds of chewing, and squeaker toys are usually not durable enough to prevent her from ripping out the squeaker quickly. To my surprise, her bites were not enough to puncture the outer lining of the snake! When we played [tug], it held up to Skye’s death grip.”
Key Features:
- Comes with squeakers for extra excitement
- Stuffing-free
- Double-stitched seams and two layers of fabric
Best Plush Ring: Tuffy Mega Ring
While plush toys do not tend to be the number one choice for most indestructible toys, Tuffy toys are a good choice for destructo-dogs who have a soft spot for, well, soft things. Marketed as “the world’s toughest soft toy,” these bad boys are lined and stitched with industrial-grade luggage material that’s gentle on gums but almost immune to teeth. Tuffy makes toys in all shapes and sizes, but the Mega Ring is a great starter. It’s washable, it floats, and best of all, it lasts in the mouths of a lot of hardened plush destroyers.
Key Features:
- Made with seven layers of fabric
- Machine washable
- It floats for a swim or bath toy
- Comes in two sizes and several patterns
