All hail International Dog Biscuit Day! For dogs, every day is International Dog Biscuit Day. And here at Rover, we love to get crafty in the kitchen with hassle-free DIY dog biscuit recipes. We rounded up some of our favorite, super-easy, dog-approved recipes that use ingredients most of us already have on hand — and that take an hour or less from start to finish. Quick, easy, cheap, and no mystery ingredients? We can dig it.
Peanut Butter Perfections
Rummage around your cupboards, and there’s a good chance you’ll find:
• peanut butter,
• a leftover can of pumpkin puree (post-holiday craziness is real)
• eggs, and
• whole wheat flour,
which also, conveniently, happen to be the only ingredients in this amazing DIY dog cookie. Find a cute bone-shaped cookie cutter and bake for 50 minutes. Easy, right?
Savory/Sweet Treat
Brown sugar and beef bouillon? Not a combo we go for all that often, but considering both are pantry staples, we’re all about this homemade dog treat that’s savory, sweet, and seriously easy to whip up. Trust us: try this and your dogs will be begging for more.
• whole wheat flour
• nonfat dry milk powder
• one egg
• vegetable oil
• beef bouillon cube
• boiling water
• brown sugar
It takes about a minute of effort for every ingredient. A 7-minute treat? That’s something we can get behind.
PB + Banana Bites
Peanut butter and banana is perhaps the greatest food pairing known to man — and dog — so this recipe is basically foolproof. Here’s what you need:
• one banana
• oat flour
• rolled oats
• dried parsley
• peanut butter
• an egg
Mash, roll into balls, flatten, pop in the oven, and voila! The best homemade dog cookies, ever.
Apple-Cheddar Snacks
Oh, OK, Martha. We see you. We’re quite partial to savory/sweet dog biscuits, and this easy recipe from Ms. Stewart is so, so simple and refined. The ingredients are oh-so-healthy and there are only a handful: barley flour, old-fashioned oatmeal, shredded cheddar, parmesan cheese, unsweetened applesauce and olive oil. Mix, cut, bake, sprinkle with parmesan just because and maybe steal one or two for yourself while you’re at it. We won’t judge.
Puppy Chow
If it’s good enough to feed to your baby, it’s definitely good enough to feed to your fur baby. Can of baby food (the options are legitimately limitless — pick whatever your dog likes best!), whole wheat flour. That’s it. Mix, cut into a cute shape, bake and serve. Easiest DIY dog treat of all time or easiest DIY dog treat of all time?
