Summer is coming to a close. Lily is excited to show off her new pink backpack and Ben can’t wait to see which of his friends are in his homeroom. The last few months were a blast with people coming and going all day long.
Dogs thrive on routine and, come the first day of school their routine is changed drastically. Here are some tips to reduce the stress on Fido from the back-to-school blues.
1. Create a new routine. As soon as the kids get home from school have them play with your dog. This gives your dog something to look forward to!
2. Slowly ease into the new routine. If your dog will be crated when the kids are in school, start to crate him for short periods of the day a few weeks before classes start.
3. Give your dog a special chew toy. Giving him a special treat when you leave makes parting easier. It also gives him something to concentrate on while you’re away.
