Do you love working dog breeds and want to honor their service overseas? The military is looking for a few good families to adopt retired military working dogs. Adoptable dogs currently live at the training center at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas, and potential adopters will need to be able to come to the base for an interview and to pick up their new best friend.
The adoptable dogs have all been temperament-tested to ensure they will make a great transition into a loving home. Prospective families will need to discuss any pets currently in the home with the adoption team. Any kids in the home should be over 5 years old. Adoption info is available on their website.

Another great way to bring a retired working dog into your life is through the Mission K9 Rescue, is a non-profit organization that rehomes retired working dogs from civilian contractors overseas as well as military-owned and trained dogs.
The organization fundraises to transport retiring dogs home from overseas (many non-military contractor companies don’t pay for this), rehab dogs mentally and physically stateside, then reunite them with their handler or find them a new forever family in the States.
