About: I have been a pet owner my entire life and have always had dogs or cats in my home. My wife and I currently have a dog who we adopted from a shelter. My wife is a certified Dog Trainer and is also employed by the local Humane Society, so we are both involved in the care of animals and absolutely love it! I mention this only to better emphasize our mutual love for animals. She has her own job and business and will not be assisting me in any way in my endeavor to employ myself as a Dog/Cat sitter/walker/care giver, etc. I am retired, and as such I am available most every day to help anyone in need of services, little to no advance notice necessary. I am retired and run a small book selling business out of my home. My business only takes an hour or so of my time each morning, so I am available almost anytime every day of the week to help care for dogs/cats. I have a senior dog in my home at the moment, a dog that my wife and I adopted from a rescue shelter. She is an inside dog, but we have 10 acres so when she goes out, she has freedom to run around. For clients, I am comfortable with any type of service necessary. I can take care of dogs in the house, take them for walks, feed them, hang out for a bit and play with them, etc. Most any service you need, I can do. I do take care of cats as well, although they do not really need much other than cleaning up, feeding, and some attention.
“I was so glad that we had Amanda taking care of our dog while we were away for a weekend. She sent pictures and updates to reassure us that all was well. Our dog is older and very anxious and we recently moved here. All was well when we got home and we're planning to hire Amanda again next time we have to leave our dog behind for a trip.”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs both big and small since I was 8 years old, and I’ve house sat and farm sat for family and friends through high school and into college. I’m experienced caring for senior dogs with special health care needs and medication administration, and I have helped train and worked with search and rescue dogs through our local fire department. Having been a volunteer firefighter for several years now, I am comfortable in chaos - so I’m happy to come walk or house sit puppies as well! I’m also available for limited farm sitting chores for an additional fee. If you have any questions or requests, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m in a season in life where I can’t have my own dog (school and work), but I’d love to take care of your furry family as if they were my own! I have a super flexible schedule, so I am almost always available to suit your schedule to accommodate your pets’ needs and wants. I am available for infinite potty breaks! I am happy to follow what instructions you have for your home and pets. I work to accommodate your pets needs and their best interests as well. I want to work towards happy pets of all shapes and sizes.
“Kim was amazing with our 2 fur babies ! She made it so easy and eased our minds about leaving our puppets at home under her care. Falkor and Seraphina immediately took to Kim and were sad when it was time for her to go home. Highly recommend Kim ❣️❣️❣️🐾🐾🐾🐾”

About: I’ve been around dogs and cats my whole life! Pets really do become part of the family. I have 2 rescue dogs, Nash and Blue, who have kept us on our toes since we brought them home! They are energetic, fun, loving, and the perfect additions in our home. I’ve helped take care of pets from young puppies and kittens to wise old friends nearing their last days. I know the stress of leaving a pet at home from experience, and want to help make your trips away from home less hectic and stressful, ensuring your babies are well loved until you return. I have a pretty flexible schedule and can plan my day around your pets! I’m available all evenings and weekends. Pets will always be a priority in my daily routine! I live a very active lifestyle so walks and outdoor play dates are no problem for me. I have one of the best boys that LOVES to play with other fur babies as much as I do!

“Our fur babies loved hanging out with Nicole! She was available on short notice and sent us photos of our babies while we were out. We will absolutely request Nicole next time we are visiting the area!”

“It would be difficult to leave a review that truly describes how wonderful Ashley is. This was the first time I left my pets with a sitter, I was sure I’d worry the whole time but Ashley was so patient and kind when she met them and kept us updated the whole time that I didn’t worry at all. She clearly loves animals and my home was immaculate when I returned. We needed a Vacation so badly and it never would have happened if Ashley wasn’t who she is. I honestly cannot say enough good about her as a a pet sitter and as a person. Your fur babies are in good hands with Ashley. Trust me on that. So is your home!”

About: Home is where your heart is as your pets are in your heart, I take care of both while your away on vacation or a work trip. My fur babies are my world. So you can be rest assured I care for yours as they're my own! I can assist with pet care in your home or mine. I offer dog walking for when you are at work or away from home on holiday. Playtime is paramount for most pets. It keeps them engaged and happy. Dogs that are active should have extra activities while you're away. I'm an active person and I believe it's your pets utmost health benefit to have lots of playtime and outdoor time! I also have fostered and pet sit for elderly or more low key dogs and always provide just the right amount of activity to take any limitations so not to strain or over do. I am currently taking dog behavioral training classes. I have some behavior training for dogs to best understand your pet. As I am always seeking to further my studies. I have lead trained, potty trained, and offered basic training during my time of sitting. Do not hesitate to schedule a meet and greet. Be happy to meet ya! I do work full-time, but mostly from home. Pets need to be OK on their own without constant supervision and pets have to be playful and friendly with others. I have several pets of my own. I do separate dogs I pet sit from my dogs after playtime so each of them can rest. I do separate during eating times as well.
“Nyla was by far the best pet care I’ve ever had! She went above and beyond with Frank, even going as far as getting him a new plushie🥹! I’m definitely rebooking with her in the future! Take it from me and book Nyla for your pet sitting needs!”

“Cassandra did a wonderful job taking care of our Foxy. She was incredibly patient and kind during Foxy's stay with her. We appreciated the updates and extra care she expressed during Foxy's stay. We would definitely recommend her!”

“Briana was amazing with all of my dogs. Two of them can be very timid and were very comfortable with her in no time. She helped me for two weeks and when I arrived home the dogs were all happy and healthy and my home was clean and tidy. Would highly recommend her!”

About: Pets have been part of my caregiving life for decades. Through years of in-home care for elderly and ill clients, I’ve walked, fed, and loved countless dogs and cats — including seniors and pets needing medication. I treat every animal with the same patience and attention I give people. My daughter Summer is also a Rover sitter, and from time to time we co-sit for each other on longer bookings, always arranged and agreed upon with the pet parent in advance. As a retired caregiver, I have a flexible, open schedule and can give your pet consistent, reliable attention. I’m generally available most days and will work with you to find timing that aligns with your travel plans. I specialize in both short and longer-term overnight house and pet sitting. When I’m in your home, I treat it with the same care and respect I’d give my own. With years of experience managing households, I follow your pet’s routines, administer medications if needed, and keep everything safe, clean, and calm. Your home will be just as you left it, your pet even happier.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 132 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Bat Harbor. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Bat Harbor walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Bat Harbor maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Bat Harbor choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Bat Harbor. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
