We have a large Newfoundland and she handles her perfectly! Moreover, she handles the environment perfectly, too. Since our dog is a big, furry Newfoundland, many people want to let her, interact with her, etc. However, since she is still a puppy, and a 100 lb puppy, she still can excited and occasionally jump, etc. While these are getting far less frequent, it still is a possibility and one I'm very aware of when it comes to other people. Twice now, Mikayla has told me about strangers approaching her wanting to pet our Newfoundland and Mikayla handled it perfectly. Right now, for several reasons, I prefer strange people, particularly, strange children, not interact with her on a walk. About: I was born into an animal-loving family and I have continued to instill this love for animals in my own children. I have had a menagerie of animals all of my life. At the young age of 12, I started walking the neighbors' dogs and going to their houses when they were out of town to feed, water, and walk their pets. In college, I worked part-time in several different veterinary clinics. I am still very well connected to the veterinary world so if I am unsure of something involving my pets, I am able to reach out to get an answer pretty quickly. Over my lifetime of 40 yrs. I have had at least 20 dogs, 10 cats, several rabbits, horses, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, and a few reptiles (but no snakes). In my full-time job, I work from home for 3 days/wk and then I go to the office 2 days/wk. I have some flexibility with my full-time job to come and go. I have a 1/2 acre that is fenced. I have 3 dogs- a Newfoundland, Black Lab, and a Beagle. All of my dogs are rescues. I know that I rescued them but as cheesy as it sounds, most days I feel like they rescued one. Each of them has their own personality, which I love. Since I work from home the majority of the time, I am home more than most people. My dogs are usually always by my side when I am home. My dogs love to jump on the bed or couch and get snuggles. I would treat your animals the same way I treat mine- with love and snuggles.
