“Shay is an absolutely amazing caretaker for my two senior dogs. They adore her and the extra care she gives them and being able to work with my ever changing schedule gives me so much peace of mind!”

About: I absolutely love my three fur babies and understand that pets are truly part of the family. One of my dogs is elderly, blind, and diabetic, so I’m experienced with providing extra care, including giving insulin injections, monitoring his needs, and keeping up with regular veterinary visits. I know how much trust it takes to leave your pet in someone else’s care, and I’ll treat your fur baby with that same love and attention I give my own. Whether they need extra cuddles, a little patience, play time, or just someone to keep them company, I’m happy to give them the care and attention they deserve! I currently work on a freelance basis so my schedule is flexible. I can offer times between 8am and 3pm Mon-Fri. I will also have availability on some holidays and would be happy to check in on your fur babies. I am not offering in-home care at this time (I am not sure how my elderly blind dog would handle unfamiliar dogs in the house). For drop-in visits I can provide crate breaks, potty breaks, play time, feeding/snacks, butt or belly scratchies - whatever your pet needs!

About: Hello! My name is Shawntel and I have been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my family had 2 dogs and 4 cats. Now I have three dogs that I couldn't imagine my life without them, with two of them being rescues. When I’m booked for house/dog sitting, my dad gets to stay and spend time with his grand-pups (: One is a German Shepard mix, another one is a Pitbull, Husky, Lab mix, and my newest addition is a golden doodle! The German Shepard is a senior so I am used to making accommodations for animals as well as giving mediations. It doesn't matter if they are young or old, big or small, boy or girl-- I love them all. I am currently a first grade teacher in Lake County which I recently took time away from dog sitting to focus on my new position. But now I’m back!! So I am available before and after the school day during the week for your animals and pretty free on the weekends. I am usually pretty flexible so if you need anything special for your animal, just let me know! I also dedicate my summers and school breaks to house/dog sitting! I truly believe that a well taken care of animal is a happy one, and who doesn't want their fur baby happy?! I look forward to meeting you and your sweet animal(s)!! “Melanie was very responsive, kind and professional! She took great care of your two pups while we were out of town. Easy to coordinate with and look forward to working with her in the future!”

About: I’ve had quite a lot of animal experience! From working in a humane society, grooming, certification in pet nutrition, to owning my own in-home pet care business (Happy Feet Pet Care). I love what I do and can’t wait to meet you and your furry ones🐶🐱 I work full time as a in-home pet care taker. I recently opened up my own business and am ready to take any action I can get! About: Hi! I’m Jill and I have been a pet owner my entire life! I have had many puppies, dogs, cats and kittens myself so I definitely have a soft spot for our furry friends! Finding good pet care is just like finding a good babysitter you need someone you can trust and rely on! I hope to be that person for you! No matter if it’s a quick check-in or a walk, my total focus is making sure your pets are living their best life! I have been doing check-in and walks for over 10 years helping out coworkers, friends, family, and neighbors. Just because you might be busy or have a lot on your plate does not mean you should feel guilty for spending a little extra time away from your furry friends. I will use every minute with them to make sure they are comfortable, loved, healthy, safe and well-fed! When it comes to any special instructions, those are always a top priority, your wishes are my command! I run my own buisness and work only 5 minutes from my home! I am very flexible being on my own schedule! I don’t have children yet so my out of work schedule is very loose during the week days! When coming to your home to care for your pets all I ask is that some basic instructions of what you would like done is all that is required! I am well versed in pet care so most requests will not phase me! Dogs: I would love to take your pup for a walk or throw around their favorite toy in your yard if you have a fence or secured yard leash! Let me know how you would like their #2 disposed of for when they use the restroom! And of course, a treat or two for the big brave baby for being so good while their parents are away! Cats: feeding time/treat time is every kitties favorite! Whatever is needed will be executed with the addition of some pets and love! I am no stranger to a litter box so if we need a refresh, don’t hesitate to ask! All I ask, is that if your cat has a favorite toy to let me know what it is so we can have a little bit of playtime before our check-in time is over to keep them happy and enriched!

“This was my first time having a sitter, and therefore my first time leaving my cat for a trip that was longer than a few days. Even though I was nervous, Ashley did a great job by ensuring me she was capable and excited to take care of my cat. While my cat doesn’t have any specific medical concerns, I do know she can be a bit finicky and I was worried about her not eating while I was away. Not only did my cat love Ashley and continued eating, I got updates even though I wasn’t able to view them for a while, due to international travel that I could look back at and know that she was well taken care of. My home and my cat were safe while I was on my vacation and I could be stress-free. If I ever need to travel again, I will definitely be booking with her in the future.”

About: When it’s time to go outside it’s time. Clean up areas where the pet(s) have pooped @. Please make sure they are trained with handling strangers. Thank you ! Currently, I am currently working part-time after almost a 9 months of unemployment. I have time for pet care services. Just a American putting effort in the American Dream for myself. Since I will take them out to poop, pee & food I’m going to be diligent on that note ! Close & lock doors is a must !
About: I’ve taken care of my own dogs growing up as well as friends dogs over the years. I walk / hike a lot and love being outside, if your dogs are comfortable at parks I’d love to take them out ! My friends and family have relied on me a lot for holidays and special occasions or to just check in while they work to take them on a walk or for some pets / play time. I always send photos for updates on how the fur babies are doing during our visits :) I’m very reliable and have a flexible work schedule that I know 2-3 weeks in advance. I’m always looking forward to meeting new people and their animals ! I do also work another job, but I know my schedule 2-3 weeks in advance and have breaks to come and check on pets also! I don’t care for any other animals at my home besides my own cats! But I always come and meet everyone beforehand and get a run down of everything I’ll need to know for the time I’m watching them!
Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Aquilla
Brittany was wonderful ! Her visits were at the times I requested, she sent me pictures and videos of my cats which were very reassuring. I have never left my cats in the care of anyone that wasn't family or friend so I was very nervous. It was wonderful to know my cats were being taken care of so well by her. I will have no hesitation in the future about booking her to take care of them. Thank you, Brittany for all the love and care you gave my kitties !

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone.
