Astrid is usually quite anxious when she’s first introduced to a new person and a new environment, but she appeared to be more at ease much quicker with Kate at her house than she typically is. Kate sent us regular pictures and updates, was very flexible about our schedule for pickup and drop-off, prompt and easy to communicate with, and we didn’t worry about Astrid at all. About: My own dogs are always the #1 teacher. They show me how to best care for them - with food, play, training, medications, travel, sleepless days and nights when they've been ill, and giving them all them comfort I can. I've volunteered at dog shelters, spent hours walking dogs in all kinds of weather, and offered comfort to friends who've had to say goodbye to their best fur friends. I currently work from home and have a flexible schedule that allows me to give your pets plenty of attention - playing, feeding, and scratching behind the ears. I take my dog for swims in the river, off leash romps in the woods, and leashed walks around town. We also play fetch and tug-of-war in the house or on the deck. About: I didn’t get to experience the joy of growing up with dogs or cats but as soon as I was able I began taking in fosters from the NYC shelter system. It was quite a learning experience spending time with many dogs (and a few cats) of all different types and personalities. I no longer foster but I bring the experience and dedication from working with so many shelter pets to caring for your furry family members. And as a pet parent now myself I have been through many sitters so I understand what makes a good one! A note on boarding and meet and greets: I’m happy to have boarding candidates come by to meet me and check out the space but I do not do meet and greets with my own dogs. My dogs are dog friendly but they are too chaotic and excitable to meet new dogs and owners right away. New dogs are kept separate at first and introduced at their own pace when everyone is calm. This minimizes stress for everyone and allows for better interactions. I currently work out of the house Monday/Wednesday/Friday but my schedule is somewhat flexible. The rest of the week I work at home and I am often available all weekend. Dogs in my home have access to a securely fenced large yard for running and fetch, as well as a quiet neighborhood for walks. If the weather is warm dogs have access to a dog door so they may go outside as they please. If your dog likes to play with other dogs mine will certainly be happy to accommodate but they can also have separate spaces if quiet time is needed. In your home I will make every effort to keep your pets schedule as familiar as possible while offering lots of love and stimulation. As someone who has had many sitters come through and stay at my house I understand the importance of trust and cleanliness so you can be away without worry.

When I care for pets in their own home, my goal is to keep their routine as familiar and stress-free as possible. I follow your pet’s routine closely & I make sure they’re comfortable in their space, following their usual schedule for walks, meals, playtime, and cuddles. Being in their own environment helps your pet feel more relaxed, and I’m there to make sure they feel loved every step of the way. I’m experienced in administering a variety of medications, including flea and tick ointments, oral chewy meds, and pills; whether they’re hidden in a treat or given directly. I stay calm and patient to make the process as stress-free as possible. I’m comfortable managing multiple pets and giving each one the attention and care they need. “Kate has a very warm demeanor and my first impression when I brought our dog Astrid over to her house for a meet and greet before boarding, was that she would care for our dog as if she were her own. Astrid is usually quite anxious when she’s first introduced to a new person and a new environment, but she appeared to be more at ease much quicker with Kate at her house than she typically is. Kate sent us regular pictures and updates, was very flexible about our schedule for pickup and drop-off, prompt and easy to communicate with, and we didn’t worry about Astrid at all. We will certainly reach out to Kate again when planning future boarding accommodations for our sweet Astrid.”
About: I was raised in a positive pet friendly family environment and had my own dogs and cats for more than twenty years. I can handle large, medium, and small dogs and will look to give them long walks and lots of exercise as a good dog is a tired dog. I work full-time but have plenty of free time during the week and on weekends to feed, walk, play fetch, or just hang out with your dog. I am happy to come to your home and walk your dog and or play at a local dog park, I am familiar with dogs from Yorkshire Terriers and Kings Charles Spaniels to Rottweilers and German Shepards.
“Andrea is a beautiful, intelligent and compassionate professional. She cares about the animals she looks after while 'pet parents' are away. She reduces anxieties naturally by listening carefully and observing astutely. Hygge had never been away or 'boarded' for pet sitting prior to my experience with Andrea. At all times she was communicative, caring and purposeful in her interactions with Hygge, who probably worried about being in a new home away from home for a few days on many levels. My transportation plans were delayed due to a severe storm that prevented my scheduled pick up, and Andrea was patient, reasonable and loving during my own stress about being stuck in NYC beyond my control for the pick up of my dog after traveling for a few days. She worked with me every step of the way, and the boarding experience was a total success even with transportation issues. Hygge returned home happy, healthy, well-nourished and satisfied with renewed confidence in his ability to work with another lovely family in our sweet community in a spirit of trust and sucess. All in all, I would recommend Andrea to work with anyone who has pets they love and want to broaden the scope of their pet's world by allowing Andrea to work with them and care for them. Andrea also understands the complexities of rescue animals, and will work with you so all are informed and kept in safe environments that nourish everyone's positive potential. Sarah and Aaron (and family) took amazing care of our pupper and I'm sure she was likely a bit sad as we drove away when picking her up The peace of mind knowing she was taken care of as a full fledge (visiting) family member meant everything to us.
