Josh provided and initial consultation of well over an hour, giving us many helpful tips for parenting our puppy. Josh is calm and patient, two traits we plan to emulate with our dog. We are beginning an eight-session training program tomorrow and we are looking forward to learning a lot more from Josh.

Blayre has worked wonders with my very shy German Shepherd foster dog, Ernie. She is gentle and loving and always seems to know exactly what Ernie needs to build his confidence and trust. She has a wealth of knowledge and fun training techniques and has just wowed me with all that she's willing to do for Ernie. And of course he loves her!

I highly recommend Megan & Tim for anyone looking for a knowledgeable and patient dog trainer. They worked with my dog, Bella, who was struggling with leash pulling, jumping, and stay in place. From the start they were professional , easy to communicate with, and clearly experienced. They took the time to understand my dog's behavior and explained the training techniques in a way that was easy to follow. I would absolutely recommend Megan & Tim for anyone looking for effective and compassionate dog training.

Anthony's been a great dog trainer. From our first interaction over the phone he was patient and kind with all my thoughts, concerns and analysis. In person training was great, he's fun and I love how he layers the techniques so the dog ( and human) really absorb the info. He was always happy to give a little extra ( times, ideas, kindness). He even helped us analyze the interaction between our dog and his to help us understand our pups confudence issues when interacting with other dogs Anthony knows what he's doing and seems to really enjoy it too!

Gretchen is a certified dog trainer who genuinely loves what she does. I’ve seen her interact with dogs of all temperaments. She reads them quickly and responds with patience and confidence. Her own dog is honestly one of the best-behaved, most lovable dogs I’ve ever met, and everyone that has met her dog has said the same thing. Any pet she trains, watches, or walks is in experienced, loving hands.

About: Communicating on the same page as your dog is only the beginning. I've spent years studying canine neurobiology, behavior, nutrition and welfare to learn best how to communicate, train and develop a relationship with our canine companions...But I didn't stop there. It makes no difference if I can speak the language of your dog if can't teach you, so I spent 3yrs at Petsmart training people to train their dogs. I've decoded the Labyrinth. I can teach you. And you can have the relationship with your dog you dreamed about before you rescued that pup. Give me a call.

Darren is a true dog lover! Watching him be a great sitter/trainer/walker to my own dog has instilled such trust in him. He is always the first person I call. He treats every dog as if it were his own. Darren is also exceptional at caring for senior pups as well as he adopted a senior dog himself a few years ago, and cares for my senior bulldog. You will not regret choosing Darren!

James, Aka Bradley, has been very attentive and caring about training my three dogs. He has been educating me on how to properly use commands and techniques while we are at off-leash areas. There were a lot of trial and errors but my dogs are able to get it and they catch on quickly! He has been communicating and checking in on how things are coming along. I appreciate that a lot. He does deeply care about dogs and giving them the proper confidence boost while being put to work. I would definitely recommend his expertise for dog training sessions.

We first met Kat through a community pack walk that she hosted. Since then, she had been taking very care of my dog for a few years until she moved away. From pack walks, to day care/boarding, to adventures/camping, to training, she knows what she is doing and has helped my once reactive dog to open up and make friends over the years.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Dog Training on Rover

To list on Rover, trainers must:

Pass a third-party background check

Show proof of education or certification in dog training

Commit to rewards-based training

Rewards-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes, including treats, play, or toys. Rewards-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human-animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

No problem! When you initially contact a trainer, you will be prompted to select a proposed first session date — this is not final, and is confirmed only if both parties decide to move forward. We also recommend contacting multiple trainers to make sure you find a trainer that is the right fit for you and your pet.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer's profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact them to ensure they're the right trainer for you and your pet.
