About: At one time, I had 5 rescued dogs who had all come to me as adults. I didn't understand how they think and how to communicate with them. I learned so much with them. I also volunteered with 3 different rescues as an evaluator and transporter. Dogs are similar in general, but each dog is unique in some ways. Knowing fundamentally that your dog always wants to make you happy is the key to success. Bringing out their best can take some time and patience, but it is so worthwhile.

Had our initial training session with Maudlin and Chewie learned so much already. Maudlin was very knowledgeable, patient, and made the entire experience enjoyable for both of us. You can tell she truly cares and knows what she’s doing. Definitely recommend Maudlin to anyone looking for a great trainer. Chewie and I are already looking forward to the next session!

I booked because of her affordable prices for in-home training as a college student and I am so glad I did! Meghan is WONDERFUL! She is so knowledgeable and helped my pup feel more confident in even just one session. My dog Sven is my first rescue, and he had some behavior quirks I just wasn’t sure how to handle along with the fact that no treat seemed to entice him enough to work for it. After our first session, and once realizing that lunch meat turkey was his favorite, everyone told me how much more confident he seemed and I started to notice his anxious behaviors go away too. Meghan helped his personality come out and we discovered just how smart he is (I wasn’t sure before we started lol!) and our next sessions he just soared. Even in just a few sessions I have noticed such a difference in my dog and I feel more equipped as his owner to help him feel safe and supported. She gives so many tips for owners that makes training and retention simple but successful. Highly recommend!

I've known Ashley for a few years and first and foremost, she is an amazing dog owner. She has worked hard to get where she is today with her training. She recognizes that dogs are not only treasured family members, but also sentient beings. Her training reflects this. Your pup will be in the best of hands with her

I met virtually with Lindsay to get some initial guidance as I think through the timeline, process, and overall plan for puppy training. She was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and very detailed in how she walked through what to expect and how to prepare. I left the conversation feeling much more confident and informed. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with her when my puppy reaches training age.

I’ve had the pleasure of having Tracy as a dog trainer and it is and always has been an amazing experience. Her love, compassion, patience and kindness for our animals is extremely evident in her work. She treats them as if they’re her own, which is so important to me. Her work ethic is awesome and I feel so very confident in her work. I really can’t say enough about her and what she has been able to do with my dogs over the years. I would highly recommend Tracy. Thank you for reaching out to me for a recommendation.

Anthony was great! I needed training for my dog to correct territorial behavior toward people in the home, and there was a noticeable improvement after just one visit. He came prepared with multiple techniques, explained the reasoning behind them, and made sure I understood how to apply the corrections consistently on my own. He was patient, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions. I left feeling confident and equipped to continue the training, and I’m already seeing positive changes.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Dog Training on Rover

To list on Rover, trainers must:

Pass a third-party background check

Show proof of education or certification in dog training

Commit to rewards-based training

Rewards-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes, including treats, play, or toys. Rewards-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human-animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

No problem! When you initially contact a trainer, you will be prompted to select a proposed first session date — this is not final, and is confirmed only if both parties decide to move forward. We also recommend contacting multiple trainers to make sure you find a trainer that is the right fit for you and your pet.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer's profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact them to ensure they're the right trainer for you and your pet.
