Kelsey is an excellent trainer! As first time pet owners, she was wonderful at not only training our dog, but us as well. She was willing to meet with us the day we got our pup to go over initial training. She has years of experience and it’s evident that she knows how to work with dogs of various personalities and breeds. She’s professional, timely, and knowledgeable. I’d highly recommend Kelsey to anyone looking for a trainer!

I was really disappointed with my experience. I paid $93 for a consultation that could have easily been done over the phone. During the session, the trainer didn’t even interact with my dog and basically just asked me questions from a pre-filled questionnaire. At the end, I was given two training plans that felt generic and AI-generated, rather than personalized to my dog. Overall, I felt like I didn’t get the value I expected and would not recommend this service.

Living on this farm for over five years, I’ve seen firsthand the love and dedication put into every animal here. Her dogs are well behaved and represent a good example of her ability to work with the behaviors of all dogs and all the other animals here. When it comes to dog watching, grooming, or training, the care is exceptional. All dogs who come here are trained with patience and skill, and they always go home happy and beautifully groomed. I've seen her clientele grow and her farm expand to provide the adequate space for each dog individually based on their needs.

About: My focus is on giving pet owners the ability to train their dogs from the comfort of their own home through virtual training. Although there are benefits to both in-person and at-home training, for certain dogs the training process goes a lot smoother when there aren't as many outside factors in the picture, as well as owners having the ability to get dog training without the stress of having to work around schedules and times to leave the house. I want to bring the same beneficial training to you right from your home!

Amy is a delightful and effective dog trainer. She was visiting my 1 year old Gracie, and spontaneously started working with her on commands. I was astounded at how quickly Amy was able to catch her attention and maintain Gracie’s focus. I definitely plan to continue Gracie’s training with Amy! A+!!

About: My journey as a trainer began with our sweet dog, Dolly, who came into our lives like a Tornado! Dolly struggled with intense, fear-based anxiety and aggression behaviors. At first, we thought it was mild, but we quickly realized she needed much more support. Since there weren’t any force-free trainers nearby, I decided to become the trainer Dolly needed. I enrolled in Pat Miller’s renowned Peaceable Paws Academies. Today, I’m proud to be a Pat Miller Certified Trainer (PMCT), dedicated to using an informed, empathetic, and pragmatic approach.

Brad is a wonderful trainer. He is very patient, both with my pup and me! I am so thankful to his help with leash behavior, addressing issues of separation anxiety and integration of our dog into our multi-cat household. He is very responsive and answers questions thoughtfully. He is a gem!

Taylor has an excellent rapport with my dog. He took to her immediately and every training session we’ve learned at least two new things that stay with him after she’s gone.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Dog Training on Rover

To list on Rover, trainers must:

Pass a third-party background check

Show proof of education or certification in dog training

Commit to rewards-based training

Rewards-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes, including treats, play, or toys. Rewards-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human-animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

No problem! When you initially contact a trainer, you will be prompted to select a proposed first session date — this is not final, and is confirmed only if both parties decide to move forward. We also recommend contacting multiple trainers to make sure you find a trainer that is the right fit for you and your pet.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer's profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact them to ensure they're the right trainer for you and your pet.
