We’ve been working with Eileen to help our 2 year old cockapoo, Reuben, who has pretty bad anxiety and resource guarding. He tends to be reactive especially when people leave the room or routines change. A coworker recommended her after having great results with his own rescue dog, and I’m so glad he did. Eileen has been incredibly kind, calm, and easy to work with. She really knows her stuff and has already made a big difference. Reuben is getting more comfortable with car rides, new walking routes, and just handling everyday changes better. We still have work to do, but we’re seeing real progress and feel really supported. I’d absolutely recommend Eileen to anyone dealing with an anxious or reactive dog. She’s been such a great help to us.

We had a phenomenal experience working with Chris and will be reaching out to him again for any dog training needs in the future! We have a 5 year old cavapoo (male) who had some minor behavioral concerns. Chris brought his vast knowledge/experience into our home and the changes we saw in our dog have been amazing. His training techniques/strategies were extremely helpful and we continue to use/reinforce them as owners. We would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for a dog trainer!

Nick is knowledgeable, patient, kind and really good at explaining and demonstrating what I need to know and do as a responsible dog owner. Training results are up to me and what I do with the skills Nick presents. I’d definitely recommend him to a family or friend for training.

Ashley is a very kind, patient, and joyful trainer with a sunshine smile who always has a positive perspective on behavioral challenges and keen eye for catching proclivities amongst animal interactions. She has been one of my dogs’ trainer (an Australian Shepherd) for nearly three years, since she was a puppy… and during the last year has done a wonderful job helping me with my other rescue dog (a possible Beagle/Foxhound mix, also around three years old) who joined our small pack— both high~energy babies. I could go on praising this wonderful person but will sum this up by saying that I highly recommend Ashley for your pets’ needs! ✨🐾🙏🏽🤗🙏🏽🐾✨

He did such an incredible job with my female French Bulldog, Becky. She came into training thinking she ran the whole place but the patience, structure, and consistency completely transformed her. Now she’s obedient, well-behaved, and still keeps her personality. Definitely my go-to dog trainer on Long Island.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Dog Training on Rover

To list on Rover, trainers must:

Pass a third-party background check

Show proof of education or certification in dog training

Commit to rewards-based training

Rewards-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes, including treats, play, or toys. Rewards-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human-animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

No problem! When you initially contact a trainer, you will be prompted to select a proposed first session date — this is not final, and is confirmed only if both parties decide to move forward. We also recommend contacting multiple trainers to make sure you find a trainer that is the right fit for you and your pet.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer's profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact them to ensure they're the right trainer for you and your pet.
