Pet care experience

1 person household, works from home

Hi! I’m Yvette. I’ve been a sitter on Rover since its infancy stage (about 12 years now)! What I offer: I will look after your pup at my house. 1 dog, 1 owner at a time (maximum). I am only accepting small to medium sized dogs due to my own pup being 5 pounds. My home:
My home is a two-story cozy townhome. Pups are allowed in all areas of the house, including furniture. My schedule:
I work from home and love scheduling my life to be relaxing. This means… low-stress, frequent internet breaks, and quality time in Mother Nature. This is why I am only accepting 1 dog at a time. My pets:
I recently adopted a puppy mill poodle rescue. His name is Francis, and he is about 5 pounds. He’s a small 8-month-old fellow who absolutely adores other dogs. He is neutered. He loves friends. Throughout the years, I’ve had every type of experience with pets that you can think of… From fostering litters of puppies, to watching 10 adult dogs at the same time, to caring for dogs who are deaf, blind, or even both. I’ve experienced it all. I am blessed with this experience. It’s allowed me to: - Understand the subtle body language of dogs. My experience began with studying with dog trainers, but morphed into a deep understanding as I began to observe the language of dogs. Ears slicked back on a dog, for example, alongside the dog licking its lips, is a sign of NERVOUSNESS and a sign of their boundary about to be crossed. It is not a submissive sign, it is very much a dog trying to communicate that they are uncomfortable. - Experience every type of leash behavior known to man. From dogs that were absolute angels… until the Fedex truck came… to dogs that have tried every harness contraption known to man… I’ve walked them all. Tell me about your dog’s leash behavior, and about their open door behavior (do they bolt?). I’ll be very interested to know. - Work with dog’s separation anxiety. I’ve had dogs that have straight-up drooled pools of drool onto my floor due to their anxiety with owner separation, not to mention those whose anxiety kicks in when they are left completely alone. I’ve worked with trainers regarding separation anxiety. I work from home, so separation anxiety is far less of a problem when I am looking after pets than it is when owners are home and have to leave for an 8-hour work day. When it comes to me looking after your pet, I’m a firm believer in allowing the pet to come to me when they feel ready. Sometimes this process is really fast, within seconds. Other times shy dogs take a good day to come sit in my lap. Whatever their process of trust is, I’m keen on building it as opposed to forcing a pet into a hug before they are ready. During my free time, I am either working on creative projects, reading, writing, or hiking.

Yvette did a great job. The tribe of cats and dogs was well cared for. We came home to a clean house and happy pets!

Booked Yvette recently to house and dog sit for us on Kaua'i while we took a two week trip to New Zealand. Couldn't be happier with the experience. She was responsive from the first moment, punctual to the meet and greet, and did everything exactly how we'd agreed. She was great with our terrier, who can be a bit high-energy to say the least, and sent us daily updates. I don't think our dog missed us at all! In the end the house was cleaner than we'd left it, but other than that we'd never had known that she stayed in the house as everything was in its place. She's honest, trustworthy and super reliable. My only regret about leaving such a good review is that we might have competition for her next time we need to book her, but greatness deserves recognition. You get what you pay for, especially on Rover. She's the real deal folks.

This was the second time Yvette took care of our dog. She was great and kept me informed every day about how he was doing. Our dog is a senior dog and can be challenging, but Yvette was kind and sensitive to his needs.

Schedule

Q: "How does pet care fit into your daily or weekly routine?" A: I work from home and am there for your pet throughout the entire day. I run errands, go out of an occasional lunch/dinner/nature stroll, but am a homebody who spends most of their time at home.

Where your pet will stay

Home characteristics

Potty breaks every 2-4 hours

Safety, trust & environment

Q: "How do you care for pets in your home and/or your client's home?" A: I will ask you a lot of questions about your pets schedule! The goal is to mimic the schedule you have for your pet as closely as possible, to produce a stress-free environment for your pet. Pets are already stressed enough as it is with their owner being gone. Therefore, I want to alleviate their stress as much as possible!

Pets

A typical day

I offer a calm and serene environment, akin to a little retreat. Your pet is NEVER locked up anywhere, unless you require this for crate training. I am an early riser, and like to take a walk to start my mornings. I offer potty-breaks every few hours, mainly from my own boredom and love of nature.
