During the toughest days of the covid lockdown in Beijing, I was stranded abroad in Hong Kong, and desperately worried about my home and my corgi Lele. That’s when Gigi didn’t just step in ways I’ll never forget. Without me even having to ask, Gigi offered to take care of Lele. But what I thought would be a quick favor turned into three months of kindness and dedication. Every single day, she went to my apartment to feed Lele, take him on long walks, play with him, and even sent me photos and funny videos to reassure me that he wasn’t just okay... he was happy!! She didn’t stop there. Knowing how much I missed home, she sometimes video-called me so I could “join” their walk around the compound. When Lele once had a small stomach issue, she calmly took him to the vet, handled everything, and kept me updated the whole time. She treated Lele like her own. But Gigi’s kindness went beyond pet care. She also helped water my plants, check my mail, and made sure my apartment stayed clean and aired out. She gave me peace of mind in a time of complete uncertainty. Gigi is more than a good neighbor. She’s compassionate, responsible, and the kind of person who shows up when it matters. Lele and I are forever grateful. Wherever she lives, the community is brighter because she’s in it.
