Pet care experience

Animal lover🩵 (one dog at a time)

Hi :) I’m Xiaoke (pronounced “shyaow-kuh”), and you’re also welcome to call me Beryl! I moved to Shoreline/Seattle for work about two years ago. I work from home full-time, so I’m able to spend a significant amount of time with the dogs I care for. My schedule is flexible, which allows me to accommodate their routines rather than leaving them alone for long periods of time. 🏠 My Home I live alone in a studio apartment in a new, pet-friendly community. There are lots of dogs and pet owners in the building, and the building provides complimentary pet treats and waste bags for residents. There is also a quiet, car-free trail just one street away from my apartment, as well as a nearby park. These give us convenient options for both regular walks and longer, more relaxing walks outdoors. Because I live in a studio, I currently only accept dogs under 40 lbs. I want to make sure every dog I board has enough space to move around comfortably and feels safe and relaxed in my home. I also only board one household at a time, unless you have two dogs from the same household. I currently do not have any pets of my own, so your dog will have my full attention during their stay. 🐶 How I Care for Your Dog I try to keep your dog’s routine as close to home as possible. I’ll follow the schedule and instructions you provide, while also making sure they get plenty of attention, playtime, and companionship throughout the day. For boarding stays, I generally take dogs out for 3–4 walks a day, depending on their individual needs and your usual routine. At least one walk can be a longer walk on the nearby trail when appropriate. I also make time for play, cuddles, and simply hanging out together — especially for the more people-oriented and “needy” pups. :) You’ll receive plenty of photos and regular updates throughout the stay, so you’ll know how your dog is doing while you’re away. 🤝 Meet & Greet I now require a meet & greet before every new boarding stay. I see this as a two-way process: I want you to feel confident that I’m the right sitter for your dog, and I also want to make sure that your dog’s needs, personality, and routine are a good fit for my home and the type of care I provide. During the meet & greet, we can go over your dog’s routine, feeding schedule, exercise needs, personality, house habits, and anything else that would help me provide the best care possible. ❤️ My Experience I’ve cared for many dogs belonging to friends, mentors, and Rover clients, and I grew up caring for my own toy poodle for 12 years. He passed away in 2021, and caring for him from childhood through his senior years taught me a lot about being attentive to a dog’s individual needs and well-being. My goal is simple: your dog should feel safe, comfortable, and cared for, and you should feel confident and worry-free while you’re away. 🐶💗

We had such a great experience! Communication was great and I got lots of photos and updates throughout Ru’s stay. She was really attentive to his back issues and made sure to follow all of his care instructions, which gave me a lot of peace of mind while we were away. Ru looked so happy and comfortable the whole time. Would definitely book with her again!

Xiaoke is the best! I was traveling in another country and my pup had a medical emergency. She had to take her to the emergency vet twice—and she was so communicative and helpful while we worked through it. I am forever grateful for her care—and for sharing her concerns around Baylor’s behavior. Thank you, Xiaoke! 💙

A typical day

When I spend time with dogs, we play energetic games of fetch and tug-of-war, which they always find exciting. I also like to incorporate training sessions to teach them new tricks and reinforce good behavior ( little things I watched from YouTube videos). To keep their minds sharp, I use puzzle toys that dispense treats, making playtime both fun and rewarding.

Before I watch someone else’s dog, I like to get the lowdown on their routine—when they eat, walk, and any commands they know. I also ask about their personality, any quirks or fears, and how they get along with other pets and people. It’s important to know about any health issues or allergies and where their vet is located. Plus, finding out their favorite toys and treats helps make our time together fun and stress-free.
