I cared for pets throughout my childhood and volunteered walking dogs for a local shelter as an adult. I’m now an “older” mom to my animal-loving 11 year old son and work from home as a non-profit consultant. My son and I started hosting dogs in Fall of 2021 and have been loving it.

We welcome your input and direction and will request a meet and greet before caring for a dog that’s new to us. Someday we very much hope to have a dog of our own. In the meantime, we’d be delighted to care for yours as if it were our own.

Information Wendie H. would like to know about your pet
We want your dog to feel at home with us so please share their routines, favorite activities, commands they know, and your house rules so we can be consistent. We also like to know if they would enjoy short car trips, have any food allergies, and what motivates them (food, snuggles, etc). We're familiar with caring for anxious dogs as long as they’re ok with being home on their own on occasion.
A typical day
We live in a dog-friendly neighborhood with wide, quiet streets. During the day dogs love to perch themselves on our sofa and watch the world go by. In the summer, they have all day access to the yard and sunny deck. In the mornings, we’ll typically take a 20-45 min walk to the woods or pond. On weekdays, when I take my work breaks, we might play, get some good rubs in or I’ll set them up with a food puzzle. In the evenings, we’ll play in the yard for some off leash run around time or my kiddo will get into a game of tug of war. On weekends, we’re pretty relaxed — a walk, yard play, and adventures out of the house if they enjoy that. And if they prefer to stay home, they’re welcome to enjoy the house which is cool in the summertime.

Our Family for Just Your Dog
Pet care experience
My son and I LOVE sharing our home (complete with large, fully fenced backyard) with one precious pup at a time. Walks, off-leash play time, new toys, snuggles, dog puzzles… we’ll shower your fur-friend with love and attention. We especially love longer stays! May 2026 Update: We have new neighbors who have a sweet dog. Our yards share a fence line and the dogs can see each other. If you have an anxious or dog-reactive pup and think this might be hard on them, let me know and I’ll make sure we’re not out in the yard at the same time.
Reviews

Wendie took great care of our dog, Rusty. She was responsive and easy to work with. Rust really enjoyed his time with her family.

My favorite person to leave our little guy with. She is so communicative and our dog seems so comfortable staying with her. Will always use Wendie!
It was our dogs (Gracie) first time overnight with non-family. Wendie did a fabulous job. We'll definitely use her again.

Wendie was terrific with Zorro. Within minutes of being in her house during a meet and greet, Zorro was comfortable and ready for play-time. Wendie has a large fenced yard (chain link, but there aren’t any neighboring dogs to cause barking sessions) and we walked the perimeter to identify places of escape (Zorro’s favorite game), and Wendie took care of them promptly. She has tons of dog toys, a bed, bowls… it really helped to keep my Zorro-suitcase to a minimum. Zorro had an issue with stairs going down to the backyard (she has some fears), but Wendie figured out a successful solution and it wasn’t an issue during her stay. Wendie took Zorro on a couple outings, which I really appreciated and the photos show a very happy dog.
