Pet care experience

Love flurry baby!

I had one dog when i was little and i can't have a pet after i arrived at the states. I've missed the cuddle and joys brought by pets. So I want to be a pet sitter to have some good time with your beloved buddy. Let me take care of them while they cure me in the same time.

Wenchi and her husband took excellent care of our sweet Enzo. They were extremely flexible with pick-up and drop-off time, gave us frequent updates. They truly treated our baby like he was their own. Highly recommend if you are in need of pet care in the Davis area.

Before the booking, I met Wenchi at a park so she could meet my dog and determine whether she was comfortable caring for her. I explained that my dog is a former vet school teaching dog who is gentle but has mild separation anxiety. I also specifically told Wenchi that if she felt uncomfortable caring for my dog or believed the arrangement was not working, she should contact me so other arrangements could be made. Unfortunately, I ended the booking early because repeated preventable safety and management problems caused me to lose confidence that my dog could be kept safe. Every photo update I received before I raised the issue showed my dog wearing her harness indoors. Wenchi later explained that she kept it on because she needed something to grab when my dog approached doors, food, or needed to be redirected. I was concerned because prolonged indoor harness use, particularly in a household with multiple dogs, can create snagging and entanglement hazards. Reliance on the harness as a way to physically control a dog also suggested that the environment and management plan were not adequate. I also had to raise concerns about inappropriate chew items. My dog was allowed access to a wooden stick or chew belonging to another dog. Wenchi responded that the other dog’s owner permitted it and that she was supervising. What another owner permits for another dog does not determine what is safe or authorized for mine. I also had to specifically tell her not to give my dog raw marrow bones. She seemed unaware of the hazards when I tried to explain that this can cause many serious issues including tooth fractures and gastrointestinal obstruction. The most serious incident involved the kitchen. Wenchi relied on a gate to keep my dog out, but my dog ultimately gained access to the kitchen, ate two bags of dog food, and tore open the plastic packaging, creating concern about substantial overeating and ingestion of plastic. Wenchi informed me of this with a casual tone despite its potential medical significance. When I raised these concerns, Wenchi stated that my dog had initially respected the kitchen boundary but later “didn’t follow orders” and “ignored” her. This wording made me feel deeply uncomfortable about the way she viewed my dog. Regardless of the intended wording, this placed responsibility on my dog’s compliance rather than on secure containment, proper feeding separation, supervision, and removal of accessible hazards. Dogs may behave differently when stressed, separated from their owner, and placed in an unfamiliar household with unfamiliar people and multiple dogs. I had disclosed my dog’s mild separation anxiety before the booking. Her behavior should have prompted more secure food storage, reliable physical barriers, separation during feeding, closer supervision, or a conversation with me that the arrangement was no longer working. I had already invited Wenchi to contact me if she felt unable or uncomfortable managing my dog safely. After I explained why I considered the pattern unsafe, Wenchi responded in a manner that was dismissive of the concerns I raised and implied that I have excessively high standards. I arranged for a friend to take over my dog’s care before the booking ended because I no longer trusted that she could be kept safe there. I appreciate that Wenchi took my dog on walks, showed her affection, and sent regular updates. However, those positives did not outweigh the repeated preventable safety failures, inadequate environmental management, and failure to contact me when she was having difficulty despite my explicit invitation to do so. I would not book with this sitter again.
