I have had pets throughout my life as far back as I can remember. My first pet memory is that of a Bassett Hound puppy my parents got for all us kids when I was 4 years old. Since then, there have been countless dogs and cats over the decades, and some birds, gerbils, and fish. Currently, we have 9 barn cats, 11 hens, 1 rooster, and about 24 ducks who have adopted us and love our pond. They are all spoiled. The barn cats have a "kitty loft" in our pole barn to climb up into, as well as individually insulated cubbies where they snuggle and stay cozy warm during cold weather. The chickens get treats every day, have a safe and cozy coop with a run area and have heated water bowls in winter as well as a heat lamp on extremely cold nights. The ducks receive a bucket of scratch once a day and have begun walking up to our house to request it. They only get fed by me once a day because it is important for wild ducks to maintain their foraging skills and not become dependent on human beings for survival. Caring for and spoiling our pets is one of my favorite past-times. We have no dogs at this time, but I enjoy romping and playing with my daughter's Great Danes and Chihuahua on visits. I enjoy walking outdoors and welcome the opportunity to walk and play with dogs via Rover. P.S. I have never seen a Saint Bernard dog or a Main Coon cat in person and would LOVE to do just that!!
