I grew up with large dogs and cats and have a beloved rescue cat now. As a young person, I housesat, babysat, and took care of animals throughout my neighborhood and my parents’ friend group. I am used to taking care of my family’s dogs when they are out of town. All I need is an introduction and instructions. I am a kind, mature, and responsible person -- a homeowner myself -- and would be happy to take extra care with simple tasks (like collecting mail and watering plants) while I’m checking on your animals. In my client's home, I really want to provide as much continuity as possible. That means emotionally supporting and reassuring your animals and maintaining their schedules and habits with food and medication. It also means fun, a chance for your companions to experience a new friendly face in a safe environment. In my home: My cat is a rescue that came out of a very difficult situation. She is wonderful and we're so proud of how far she has come from the terrified animal we first adopted. I do not feel that she would welcome other animals into our home at this time, however.

Virginia is incredibly responsible and thorough in her care, not only for her own pets but also for others' pets. She makes an effort not only to provide your pet with the basic necessities, but also to engage and play with them. Virginia understands that some pets need time and space, and isn't one to bombard your pet's personal space. She is ready to meet your pet where they're at, while also making sure they have warm bellies and a warm, watchful eye. When you leave your pet in Virginia's care, you can stop worrying. They will be in safe hands.
Virginia is awesome--she was great with my two kittens, making sure they had everything they needed while I was away, and gave me excellent updates the whole time. I had to leave town again at the last minute--just two days after her first care stint with my kittens--and she agreed to help out no problem. Highly recommend her services, which I'll certainly be using again.

Schedule
I am currently working part-time from home and finishing a graduate program at UVA so I have a flexible schedule. I prefer early morning and evening checkins/walks (in case I do need to go into work). I can be available to stay overnight if needed.

- I would want to know your pet’s ideal schedule, their favorite foods, treats and activities. If there are special needs, either physical or emotional, I would also like to discuss so I can best support them. I am accustomed to rescue dogs and cats that have difficult pre-stories and realize that some animals need a little bit more reassurance. For medication, I take detailed notes and ask questions to make sure everything is perfectly understood. I also have experience keeping careful records of medications or any other things you may want noted while you are away.
