Safety, trust & environment

When caring for pets in a client’s home, I prioritize creating a safe, comfortable, and familiar environment for them. I stick to the pet’s routine as closely as possible—feeding, walks, playtime, and rest at their usual times. I ensure their living space is tidy, and I make sure to follow any special instructions for medication or behavior. I also make sure to send regular updates and pictures so pet parents can feel reassured that their furry friends are in good hands. Most importantly, I treat their home and pets with the utmost respect, providing them with a stress-free experience while they’re away.

Information Vanessa N. would like to know about your pet

Before watching a pet, I always like to ask a few key questions to make sure I can give them the best possible care. I’ll ask about their personality, how they behave around other pets and people, and if there are any behaviors or quirks I should be aware of—like anxiety, chewing, or barking. I also want to know about their health, including any medical conditions, allergies, or medications they might need, and whether they’re up to date on vaccinations. I’ll check in on their feeding routine, treat preferences, and any dietary restrictions. For dogs, I’ll ask about their potty habits and how they behave on walks—like if they pull, react to other dogs, or have favorite walking routes. I also want to know where they usually sleep, if they’re crate-trained, and what comforts them when they’re feeling anxious. Lastly, I’ll make sure I have emergency contacts and vet info on hand, just in case. This helps me provide personalized, safe, and reliable care for every pet I look after.

A typical day

I love keeping pets happy and active while they’re in my care! For dogs, that might mean fun walks around the neighborhood, games of fetch, tug-of-war, or even some basic training practice if they enjoy it. I tailor the energy level to what your pup prefers—whether it’s high-energy play or just chill cuddle time. For cats, I bring out the toys, feather wands, and laser pointers for play sessions, and of course, plenty of pets and brushing if they’re into that. I’m all about making each pet feel safe, entertained, and loved while you’re away!

This is my first time using Rover and I'm so grateful I found Vanessa. I have an old blind, Australian Cattle Dog with a heart condition who is selective with people and dogs. He warmed up to Vanessa quickly during our meet and greet, and I fully trusted him in her care. We also have a cat who quickly fell in love her. Vanessa was a great listener as I outlined my dog's quirks, and asked if she could take videos of how I administer the medication etc. to keep his routine as normal as possible. She was professional, great at communication, quick to respond, and arrived on time (actually early). A couple of days before we left, I asked her to come earlier than the proposed time and she was able to accommodate that no problem. The house was left in great condition - the animals were happy and safe, and I will definitely book Vanessa again in the future. Thank you for taking such good care of our pack!

Vanessa was so kind and flexible with us as our plans shifted. She took great care of our puppy Tulip and our home. We look forward to working with her again soon!

Vanessa did in home care for our 12 week old puppy. It was his first time being away from both of his caretakers. He was nervous at first but she knew how to build his trust and coached us on how to introduce him to her as well. She is knowledgeable and patient! She is accommodating and respectful to certain requests we made for guests in our home and she is on-time for every booking. I highly recommend!
