Pet care is an integral part of my daily routine. I spend time outside with my own dogs multiple times a day, and when I have boarding dogs, they join in on the fun! My Huskies are well-trained and independent within our fully fenced property, allowing me to focus on my boarders. I typically walk them on-leash to ensure their safety and give them the attention and exercise they need. Whether it’s structured walks, supervised playtime, or just relaxing outdoors, I make sure each dog feels comfortable and cared for throughout their stay.

Safety, trust & environment
Safety and trust are my top priorities when caring for boarding dogs. Our property is 2.5 acres, but because we have local wildlife, I always keep boarders on-leash when outside the designated play area. We have a smaller secure, fenced-in space that serves as a dog park where dogs can safely enjoy supervised off-leash time. I introduce new dogs gradually, with my boyfriend always helping when integrating them with our own dogs. For extra-shy boarders, we start with a structured “walkabout,” keeping everyone on-leash to help them feel comfortable before closer introductions. Inside, I make sure every dog has their own space by using the guest bedroom and office as designated areas. Meal times are managed carefully—each dog eats separately to avoid food-related tension, either in their crate or in a separate room. At bedtime, I have limited spots available in my bed, but I do love snuggling up with my furry guests if that’s what makes them feel safe and at home. Whether they prefer their own cozy space or staying close, I ensure every pup feels comfortable and secure throughout their stay. If they are used to sleeping in their crate, they are welcome to do so as well.

Information Vanessa H. would like to know about your pet
Before boarding a dog, I like to gather important details to ensure they have a safe and comfortable stay. It’s essential for me to know about any medications or medical conditions that require special attention, as well as their specific needs when it comes to exercise, diet, and daily routines. I also ask about their experience with crates, their comfort level around other dogs and strangers, and their overall training level. Understanding these factors helps me tailor their care and make their stay as smooth as possible. Whenever possible, I prefer to do a meet-and-greet beforehand. This gives us a chance to discuss everything in detail, and many owners appreciate the opportunity to check out the space and see where their pup will be staying.
A typical day
A typical day depends on each dog’s needs, but I always ensure they get the right balance of activity, enrichment, and rest. We start the morning with breakfast, and many dogs I’ve boarded recently enjoy going back to sleep afterward—so I let them snooze if that’s what they prefer! Around 10 AM, I take my Huskies out for a walk around the property, and boarders join in on-leash. If they’re playful, we wrap up with some fun in the designated play area, where they can safely be off-leash. Most dogs aren’t used to being surrounded by so much nature, so they get plenty of mental stimulation just exploring—sniffing new scents, watching the neighbor’s horses, and taking in the sights and sounds. We go out again in the afternoon and once more before sunset to make sure everyone gets plenty of fresh air and exercise. If a dog requires training, I work it into our day—indoor sessions typically happen in the late morning, while on-leash training gets dedicated one-on-one time outside. Most dogs are pretty tuckered out from all the activity, but for those with extra energy, I have plenty of engaging games and puzzles to keep them entertained—like the paper box game, interactive toys, and focus-building exercises like the waiting game. Every pup gets personalized care to make sure they’re happy, stimulated, and relaxed during their stay.

Pet care experience
I have experience with all types of dogs. From senior disabled dogs who can’t walk anymore and have a lot of medications to take, to young pups learning and discovering everything. I also have experience with trained dogs so I’m able to reinforce training on walks or at home.
Reviews
Vanessa has been Charlie's dog walker, sitter, trainer, and house sitter for over three years. I trust her with my life. Charlie is a 5-year-old energetic Weim, not always easy to handle. She listens to Vanessa more than she listens to me. Cousin Hazel, also a Weim, comes to visit, and Vanessa takes care of them both. They both adore her. She always sends photos and videos of all the adventures. I cannot recommend her enough. You'd be lucky to have her take care of your pets.
Vanessa is truly a gift. We have had a number of pets over the years that Vanessa has been our pet sitter and she has loved and cared for them all as if they were her own. She understands that each pet has specific needs and is happy to cater to that for each one. We even have a special needs pup that she loves, spoils, and cares for in such a way that I don't think our pets even miss us when we are gone :-) They adore her and get so excited when she arrives. We trust her implicitly, and love the added bonus of the daily text message check ins and amazing photos and videos that she sends. Not only are our pets cared for wonderfully, but when Vanessa stays in our home when we travel, we come back to a spotless, and clearly respected house. It is difficult to trust our home and sweet babies fully to someone, but when we found Vanessa we found the person who alleviates all of that stress and concern. We are so grateful for Vanessa
Vanessa both walks my dog as well as pet sits while I am traveling. I could not sing her praises any louder. Sometimes I think my dog loves her more than me! She doesn't just walk him but really plays with him. Chasing squirrels, throwing balls, etc. I trust her implicitly with not only looking after him but also my house when I am gone. She is also a fantastic photographer and always sends the most amazing photos of Riley enjoying his best life with her! I highly highly recommend Vanessa!!
