Information Valerie O. would like to know about your pet

I would love to know if you dog has any special needs so I can give them all the care they need! I would also like to know their temperament and how they get along with other dogs.

A typical day

Exercise, Discipline, Affection!! Your dogs age, temperament and energy level will dictate our activities together. Whether it's a dog beach day or just a laying on the puppy couch kind of day, you can be sure that your dog will get the exercise and attention they need. I am also very mindful of your comfort level as a puppy parent. Let me know what you expect for your baby - for example, if you would prefer that I limit their exercise to my home and yard or if you are happy for them to join me and the pups on our daily outdoor excursions. At the end of the day, all of the pups sleep outside under my large covered patio on their own personal Coolaroo doggy hammock and pillow. If your dog has special needs or just does not do well sleeping outside we are happy to accommodate them inside in our comfy doggy room (see pics!) Of course, if it gets chilly outside, everybody gets to use the doggy room!

Pet care experience

Hi there - I'm Valerie! I am a Navy wife and I have lived in San Diego for 14 years. I am a Certified Veterinary Assistant. My husband and I have a great home with a large fenced yard here in beautiful North Park, close to the Zoo, Balboa Museums and 5 lovely dog parks! My dogs, Jenna and Laddie, love going with me on my 'urban hikes' through our neighborhood along it's many designated canyon trails. My husband and I love animals and have been around dogs all of our lives. My husband says that he wants 10 of our own dogs to greet him when he comes home from work - I told him we will need more room!! So until then, we both get great joy and satisfaction from taking care of all the wonderful variety of puppies that we sit and also lending a hand to fellow dog parents! I can't wait to meet you and I am excited about being a Premier sitter with Rover!

Val was amazing with our dog, Max. We got frequent updates and photos. He had a great time spending the week with them. I knew he was being so well cared for and loved.

Valerie was absolutely fantastic with Gerty. She was very sweet with my pup, and it was clear that Gerty loved her. I really appreciated how Valerie kept me updated throughout the stay, sending plenty of photos so I could see how happy Gerty was with her dogs as well. Valerie was responsive, responsible, and genuinely caring. I will definitely be reaching out to Valerie the next time Gerty needs pet sitting

Valerie is nothing short of incredible!! If I could give her more than 5 stars I would! I recently moved to San Diego and have been searching for a new dogsitter for my dog Prince, which has been very challenging and stressful because he suffered significant abuse before I adopted him and is extremely fearful and reactive with people that he doesn't know. I reached out to Valerie after reading her profile and other reviews, seeing that she was a certified veterinary assistant, and that other dog owners found her super knowledgeable about dog behavior and experienced with dogs that are fearful and shy. I was immediately impressed with Valerie before we even met - when I was explaining to her what to expect from Prince at the meet and greet (that he wouldn't want to be pet and might not even interact with her), she was so understanding, respectful about his needs, and I could already tell she was extremely knowledgeable about dog behavior. Valerie and I set up a meet and greet, and as soon as I got to her home, Prince seemed comfortable, at ease, and happy. Her home is set up perfectly for dogs. As we talked about his routine, Valerie asked lots of great questions, showing me she really understood and wanted to provide what would make Prince feel most comfortable and at home (away from home). We also talked about her work at a board and train facility, which again showed me she knows her stuff. Instead of being reluctant given his reactiveness to new people, Valerie was so confident, and provided a super accurate assessment of Prince's behavior, noting that he was cautious and smart, which I really appreciated as his reactiveness can often be misunderstood and not all sitters are up to the task of caring for him, especially in the beginning before he warms up to you. We also introduced Prince and her dogs and they hit it off right away. I left the meet and greet feeling so excited that I had finally found the perfect person to care for Prince. When I dropped Prince off to stay with Valerie, he seemed comfortable right away and I could tell he really liked it there. Valerie was SO communicative during Prince's stay, taking the cutest pictures of him (he is camera shy haha) and constantly making me feel reassured and at ease that Prince was doing great. I loved seeing the pictures of him playing with her pups, and also the ones where he was snoozing on the couch. She even sent one of him resting his head on her leg on the couch which made my entire day! Prince also ate all of his food too, which he almost never does when he has stayed with sitters in the past. Valerie was also flexible with my pick up time, when I was arriving in on a late flight, which was super appreciated. I could not ask for anything better in someone caring for my baby, and I am extremely thankful to have found Valerie. She will without a doubt be the only sitter I use for Prince going forward. He can't wait to go back!

Valerie watched our two dogs for several days. I cannot speak highly enough of Valerie and my experience. I was worried about the dogs but she went above and beyond for us. Valerie is the only person I will ever again have watch Blu and Sam. Truly amazing. I received text updates with pictures, updates on how they were doing. Drop and pickup were easy and comfortable. I am truly impressed. Thank you Valerie for caring so much for Blu and Sam.
