Pet care experience

Large yard/homebody/quiet cozy home

Hello!! I am a full time pet sitter currently offering boarding and daycare services in my home. I've lived in North Austin my whole life and have always had a deep compassion for animals. In addition to growing up with and caring for animals (dogs, cats, gerbils, mice, hamsters, fish, frogs) I managed a local dog boarding/daycare/grooming facility for several years (was there for almost a decade) so I have extensive experience with puppies to seniors, medication and special needs, first aid & CPR, play group management, as well as the complexities and subtleties of dog behavior and language. 🐾****Before requesting please read****🐾 For boarding services in my home, I have a large calm senior dog so your pup must get along with others. I'm best fit for lower energy doggies as I've recently become injured and can't move about as I used to! If your pup enjoys a low-stimulating environment they'll be very comfy here :) I typically take one pup per day. On some occasions I'll have 2 client pups if a boarder overlaps with any recurring daycares. I always keep in mind each dog's playstyle, temperament, and comfort level, and use my discernment before booking days with multiple dogs to ensure all pups are happy and safe. I will ask your pup to be crate trained for overnight and when I occasionally leave the house for any short errands (not often at all). I keep the crate in my bedroom so your pup doesn't feel alone overnight :) I do have some pups who sleep perfectly well in the bed with me, it just depends on each pup! I also ask boarders and daycare to be current on rabies and DHPP vaccines, and preferably on a flea preventative. I can make exceptions for seniors that no longer receive the vaccs or who've had reactions to flea meds. Any questions about these please ask! If your pup has a wound that needs daily cleaning, eye drops, ear drops & ear cleaning, diapers or cones, etc I've got it taken care of :) I'm very well versed in anxious-dog and mastered the patience of adjusting to their comfort level and needs. I have lots of tools and tricks to help an unsettled pup feel settled, and if there's any particular needs your dog has, please don't hesitate to ask. I have been a go-to sitter for friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family for over a decade when they need a caring hand.

My senior pup Lexie stayed with Valerie while I was out of the country for three weeks. I loved the daily updates and photos so I knew Lexie was in good hands. She is a nervous girl and Valerie was patient and gentle with Lexie’s needs. I highly recommend Valerie as a sitter!

My senior pup Lexie stayed with Valerie and Juniper for daycare in advance of a longer boarding stay. Valerie was very attentive to Lexie’s nervousness and tried to make her as comfy as possible. I appreciate Valerie sending updates and photos throughout the day. Lexie will be back!

Valerie was so good with my dog Dottie! Dottie can be a little finicky with food and other dogs but did so well at Valerie’s! We will be back for sure!

Our shy, anxious dog had a wonderful first stay with Valerie. Valerie made our dog feel so comfortable and relaxed that the dog ate and explored the big backyard. Our dog will stay with Valerie again.

Schedule

Being a full time sitter I am home almost 24/7 so your pup will have round-the-clock attention and care. We take frequent outside breaks all throughout the day and evening, and spend our time playing, cuddling, and any of the pup's favorite activities. I leave the house once or twice a week for 2-4 hrs max, if that!

Safety, trust & environment

I always meet the needs of the animals in my care with love and patience as I would my own. My yard is fully fenced, mostly shaded, mostly grass, and I take all precautions to ensure nothing dangerous is within pup's reach. Please note: part of the yard is 4ft chain link fencing so if your doggie is a jumper it may not work out, but the majority of the fencing is 6-7ft wooden privacy fencing. I have plenty of blankets and beds to help everyone stay as comfy as possible, laundry and cleanings are done between each stay. I have extensive experience with first aid matters and prefer to have plans agreed upon for "just in case" situations. This is your baby we're talking about and I do not take this responsibility lightly.

Pets

A typical day

Tell me their favorite toys and activities and I'll make sure they have the best time, whether that is fetch, tug, cuddles, watching animals on TV, treat puzzle games (I have several), or anything else! My large yard is perfect for zoomies, fetch, frisbee, chase, sunbathing. Outdoor activities are restricted during the heat, so my house can also accommodate indoor fetch, tug, and other playtime activities during unfavorable weather. I've been known to make blanket forts on rainy days and the pups love that!

I do have a large senior dog so I ask your pup is friendly with other dogs and respects his space boundaries. Tell me all their likes and dislikes, any rules (are they allowed on couches/beds and other house rules), allergies, medical conditions and things to look out for, any touch sensitivities, any current bumps n lumps or injuries, and your preferred vet & emergency 24hr vet.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
