I use a calm tone where I don’t overexcite the animal and provide good manners reinforcement and also play and engagement. I make sure I am predictable and don’t cause the animal to be uncertain. I follow training and routine that the animal is most used to. I assert my boundaries so the animal knows what to expect from me. I like to give the animal space and respect. I also love to show affection or approval through touch sometimes and especially through positive communication and rewards.

- If I am caring for a dog - the most important thing I need to know about is behavioural issues so that I can stay safe and keep the dog safe. I will want to know best strategies to deal with the dog if something goes wrong or there is a behaviour. I would also want to know about health issues - major and minor. I’d also like to know what the dog likes and dislikes.
