I have used Rover multiple times over the years, and in my experience most sitters follow a similar protocol: a meet-and-greet, a discussion about the dog's needs and personality, an opportunity to see the environment where the dog will be staying, and regular photos and updates throughout the stay. Unfortunately, because our vacation fell over the busy Fourth of July holiday period, my regular dog sitters were unavailable for the full two weeks we needed. Triba was available, had excellent reviews, and was a 5-star sitter. Her profile stated that her workdays are flexible and that pet care seamlessly integrates into her daily life which was extremely important to us as Cooper loves company. During our meet-and-greet, I was able to see her apartment and confirm that there were no stairs, which was important since my Shih Tzu, Cooper, is fearful of stairs and cannot manage large staircases. I also explained that Cooper is not really an "outside dog" but enjoys being walked multiple times a day and typically goes out for walks morning, afternoon, and evening. Triba assured me this would not be a problem. She also asked if Cooper could accompany her on visits to her mother's house during the stay. Since Cooper loves car rides and enjoys attention, I thought that sounded wonderful. During our vacation, however, communication was much less than expected. I was never proactively contacted with updates and had to reach out myself to request photos and information. The updates I received were generally very brief, often just a sentence such as, "He's having fun." What concerned me most was that the photos seemed inconsistent with what had been discussed during the meet-and-greet. Cooper appeared to be in locations other than the apartment I had visited, with different bedding and food bowls than what I had seen. He was also wearing his harness in every photo and was often attached to a dog run, which left me wondering how much freedom he had during his stay. Additionally, I never saw him interacting closely with a person in any of the pictures. I had also explained that Cooper does not particularly enjoy being around other dogs and that walking is important for both his exercise and bathroom routine. During the stay, I was told several times that it was too hot in the morning, so walks would be done later in the evening, which differed from the routine we had discussed beforehand. To be clear, I believe Cooper was safe and cared for, and Triba was always pleasant and kind in our interactions. My concern is not about his basic care, but rather about communication and transparency. Based on what was discussed during the meet-and-greet, I expected to know where Cooper would be staying, who would be caring for him, and to receive more consistent updates throughout the visit. While Triba seems like a lovely person, I would recommend her primarily to owners who are comfortable with minimal communication during a stay. If regular updates and transparency regarding your pet's environment and daily routine are important to you, this may not be the best fit.

Triba is responsible and experienced with animals. I felt confident leaving my kitties with her. She was able to gain Cookie’s trust quickly—not easy to do! They came back happy and well adjusted.

Schedule

Pet care seamlessly integrates into my daily and weekly routine, ensuring the well-being of my furry companions remains a top priority. Scheduled feeding times, regular walks, and play sessions are non-negotiable components, providing essential exercise and mental stimulation. Despite occasional office commitments, I make time for midday check-ins and cuddle breaks, ensuring my pets feel loved and attended to throughout the day. Ultimately, pet care isn't just a task but a cherished part of my routine, enriching both their lives and mine.

Safety, trust & environment

In both my home and my client's home, I prioritize the well-being of pets by providing regular meals, exercise, playtime, and affection. I follow specific care instructions from the owners and maintain a clean environment.

A typical day

I’m a couple blocks away from Bushnell park so morning & afternoon we will take a walk there and back. I always like to take longer walks on the first night so they get to know the area & me better. On the weekends I will bring it to the dog park (obviously only if it’s ok with you!)

Knowing key details about a pet ahead of time ensures tailored care and a positive experience. Essential information includes dietary preferences or restrictions, medical conditions, behavioral quirks, and favorite toys or activities. Understanding their routine, such as feeding times and exercise needs, helps maintain continuity and comfort. Any anxieties or sensitivities should be noted to provide reassurance and avoid triggers. Additionally, emergency contacts and vet information are vital for quick response in unforeseen circumstances. By gathering these insights beforehand, I can create a personalized care plan that prioritizes the pet's well-being and happiness.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
