- Oscar (Treeing Walker Coonhound) 3 years, 7 months old in Arlington, VA
Oscar was rescued in Nov 2018 from a strip mall in WV, then spent some time in a kill shelter while attempts were made to find his owners, then placed in a foster home and then adopted by us in early 2019! He's wonderfully friendly, playfully social, loves to play at the dog park, go for leash runs or just cuddle on the sofa. His favorite activities are napping, sniffing on walks, chasing (and sort of retrieving) tennis balls. Pretty much the sweetest hound in town. He'll either run all day or nap all day, whichever his human owners choose to do. He's a fence jumper and needs at least a 5-ft fence to keep him from hopping out and following trails.
- Sex: Male
- Age: 3 years, 7 months old
- Weight: 55 lbs
- Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound
- Tracking Chip: Yes
- Neutered: Yes
House Trained: Yes
He only needs to go out once or twice a day for pee/poop break. He sleeps through the night and into the morning without needing to go out.
Gets along with children: Yes
He's very affectionate with all humans.
Gets along with other dogs: Yes
He enjoys outings to the dogpark and has spent much of his life sharing with other dogs. He pretty much ignores other dogs at the park and just wants to chase tennis balls! When meeting while walking on a leash he's always friendly even if he has to tolerate other dogs snapping at him. He's a fence jumper so requires a fence higher than about 5 feet to keep him from jumping out and following trails and scents.
- Gets along with cats: No
Since he's a hound, we don't think he'll get along with cats, although we haven't tried yet.
He's a fence jumper so requires at least a 5-ft fence to keep him from hopping over and exploring trails and scents. If he escapes he usually stops soon to mark something so there's a chance to catch him, but best to keep him on a leash or in yard/park with higher fences.
